"So good, so expensive"
Version: Adobe Photoshop CS5
Pros
It does so much, I'm always learning new things.
Cons
be ready to fork over big $$
Summary
I find that Photoshop CS is indispencible, but really, does it need to be $700? That hurts. Sadly the alternatives have not been as pleasing.

"best editing software by miles"
Version: Adobe Photoshop CS5
Pros

Cons
huge for what it is and business priced

"a great piece of s/w gets even greater"
Version: Adobe Photoshop CS5
Pros
New features are great. HDR Pro is the best tonemapper out there, worth the price of the upgrade for those who do this kind of thing. Content-aware also excellent.
Cons
Too expensive.
Summary
I find PS one of the best-designed and most stable pieces of s/w I use. The fact that Adobe solicits user-feedback and considers it means that each new version has valuable new and useful features. Unlike Windows, PS features are generally well-designed and top-class, meaning that one doesn't have to spend lots of money on third party stuff for decent functionality.
