"this program is FABULOUS!"
Version: Adobe Media Encoder Update (32-bit) 5.5.1
Pros
LOCATE32... is very fast...but there is a couple things you need to do...
a. you have to expand the "standard box" to SEE THE SEARCHE RESULTS...
b. YOU HAVE TO "INDEX IT!" otherwise you're going to get an error message...INDEXING IS under file in the MAIN dropdown BOX... takes a few minutes the FIRST TIME...then the database is updated in about "one minute" on a win7 gaming Laptop...
c. other tricks to speed searches...
use "a file extension" ...like rtf txt pdf xls (no periods)AS A SEARCH DELIMITER ...now when I want to find someone's name I keep info like that in a "rtf" (I save all my text files in that mostly ...whether I'm using Msft Word (on my xppro desktop...or openoffice on my gaming laptop) ... rtf files are the universal default for "word processing text stuff" ...so since I may be emailing, etc. I always use that default...also they often with different programs, etc....
flashrobCons
so far...I haven't been able to USE IT OVER THE NETWORK ...a minor point...as you just download and use it on each machine...
I also use "the free personal version of Teamviewer 7" and REMOTE CONTROL ALL MY NETWORKED WIRELESS COMPUTERS (4 in total)SO NETWORKING IS "OVERATED TO ME, ANYWAY"...the Teamviewer 7 "free personal use version" IS FABULOUS ALSO...
I KEEP THE NETWORKS GOING...but I don't transfer that much data...so the "xtra high speed (like wired one gigabit...or wireless 300mb) is NOT NECESSARY...
THE TEAMVIEWER "REMOTE CONTROLS" SOFTWARE...runs over the Internet...about 25mps high-speed Comcast...so that's more than fast enough, anyway...
flashrobSummary
great programs:
TO DO A "KEYWORD SEARCH" WITHIN A FILE...YOU HAVE TO CLICK ON THE "ADVANCED TAB" ON THE MENU...and go to a second screen "where you can further delimit your search"
TeamViewer 7 for remote control
Everything for filename searches
Locate32 for "infile keyword searches"
...faster computing, too...WITH WIN7 INDEXING ...not chugging slowly in the background...when it's not disabled by some antivirus program...

PS. below is xtra stuff from the Pros section...that I had to cut because of the text limitation, etc....
I have been looking for a "great search" program that can look for keywords in files...I have been creating "long file names" so I can use "another great program:" EVERYTHING... but that only does file names...
now, the BIG PROBLEM WITH WIN7 SEARCH....everytime I run "advanced system care" it ERASES THE INDEX...very complicated this stuff...
...that is because MANY ANTIVIRUS AND SECURITY SOFTWARE PROGRAMS "don't like some of the backdoors" OPEN TO MALWARE ...so they SHUTDOWN WINDOWS SERVICES...which "stops the win indexing"...
I like "advanced system care" (I use the pay PRO version of this...it's that good) ...it does a great job...so I didn't want to have to stop using...also figured other stuff I have would eventually stop the "win indexing"...(besides the win indexing takes hours to renew)...locate32 does a FANTASTIC QUICK INDEXING...

as with anything...play and explore this program a bit...I OFTEN GET FRUSTRATED BECAUSE OF THINGS that are "not the provider's fault"....
like in TeamViewer 7 ...great free (MAKE SURE YOU OPT FOR PERSONAL ONLY characteristics) WHEN SETTING THIS UP...
ANYWAY...I thought the "screen view was too small" UNTIL I REALIZED I had to "adjust SCREEN RESOLUTIONS" in "windows display" on various computers to GET "FULL SCREEN REMOTE CONTROL" OVER my INTERNET WIRELESS NETWORK...you can also "control anyone elses computer" (anywhere in the world from any computer) if the program is downloaded and activated (password protected and has to be running on both machines, etc....so it's safe, etc....
anyway,
love this LOCATE32...
