"Worst Ever"
Version: Adobe InDesign CS 7.0.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Obviously the people at Adobe think it's fun to screw with the people who use their product in the workplace on a daily basis. This is by far the worst version ever. It loads slower. No inx? How can you justify that? The centering thing is annoying. Zoom sucks. Reverse the step and repeat (vertical and horizontal) -- think that's funny -- Try working in it for years and then suddenly get used to the fact that it's reversed! This product should be condemned. A major step backwards for Adobe. And I was just starting to be swayed from QuarkXpress... but Quark got better, and InDesign got worse. Oh yeah, crashes too. A pain in my... Boycott this version, and send Adobe a message. -
"Update file, not demo or full program"
Version: Adobe InDesign CS 5.0.4
Pros
Good if you want to update...
Cons
...but if you're looking to try/use Adobe InDesign, look elsewhere
Summary
The description implies that this is a standalone version of the program, it's actually an updater.

"Updates OK...."

It updates InDesign with no problems. For some reason, this update is not available via the Adobe Updater (from within Adobe CS2 apps.) -

"Suitcase and InDesign CS 2"
Version: Adobe InDesign CS 4.0.1

It looks like Extensis was waiting for InDesign CS2 - and the new Suitcase X1 plugin works excellent. -
"Quark Schmork"
Version: Adobe InDesign CS 3.0.1 August 2004
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Quark has been absolute garbage since the disaster that was 4.0. I hung on to Quark 3.32 until I couldn't stand it anymore. InDesign 1.0 sucked, granted, but 1.5 was good enough for me to switch, and I've actually been quite happy with versions 2 and 3. I really like the way everything works in InDesign CS; I have no complaints. In fact, I wish Adobe would bring some of its aging applications up to the modern UI standard that InDesign enjoys. By contrast, Illustrator (the app I spend most of my time in) seems ancient and clumsy.
In any case, I forgot about Quark a LONG time ago. -
"Aug Update installed easily, works fine."
Version: Adobe InDesign CS 3.0.1 August 2004

I continue to enjoy this fine application and its very significant productivity and creative advantages over Quark. My sentiments seemed to be shared by many former Quark users in discussions ar recent user group meetings. -
"Hyperlinks Palette limitations"
Version: Adobe InDesign CS 3.0.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Look at the Quark 5 (not Quark 6) hyperlinks palette and you'll see exactly what I mean. Quark's panel shows all Hyperlinks and all Anchors (Hyperlink Destinations) simultaneously.
In one Quark palette, I can see if some anchors are unconnected to a hyperlink (very useful to see if you forgot to connect it, or if your document needs fine tuning). One can also see if an anchor as multiple hyperlink connections to it (which they usually do in a complex document). InDesign is missing these.
The lack of hotkeys in InDesign for Hyperlinks & Hyperlink Destinations is unfortunate. With complex documents, using the mouse to go to those menus will take too long.
InDesign beats Quark with Bookmarks & Styles (and everything else), but its hyperlinks palette will prevent me from switching. Which is sad, because Quark is extremely buggy with hyperlinks, but at least I can create them more easily and view them more easily. -
