    "Macromedia should be ashamed"

    September 11, 2003  |   By tu11ym0n

    Version: Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 2004

    Summary

Dreamweaver MX 2004 c-r-a-w-l-s on my dual-1.25 ghz G4 with 2gb RAM. totally unusable. there is at least a one second delay before you see the text you type appear on screen. try copying/pasting a snippet of text. you get the spinning beach ball just by copying and or pasting a few words of text. try scrolling the page in design view - more delays.

i'm not sure if Macromedia had Mac beta testers, but if they did those beta testers should be flogged.

Cause I fell asleep while it was booting. This app is so slow on my PB (867 Mhz, 12", 640MB RAM) that I barely find it usable. All of the other MX 2004 products are the same way so far for me. Anyone else experience this? I give it 5 stars for features and then take away 2 for performance issues. Could this have to do with Opera doing rendering?

    "Dreamweaver 7"

    Version: Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 2004

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I operate a very text-oriented Web site, so my evaluation is slanted heavily in that direction. I like the very improved onscreen display of text and the fact that now you can enter large amounts of text without nearly as much of that awful "sticky" feel. For my purposes best new feature is that it is Unicode-capable, which facilitates better Web typography as well, of course, as the use of exotic alphabets (this will be a great help for pushing the Mac platform in many foreign markets). But I'm sorry that the designers haven't leveraged this new Unicode more creatively (example - why not have an option so curly quotes would be inserted automatically rather than requiring a trip to a special toolbar, why bury curly single quoes in an awkward table you have to call up specially)? And that awful timelag when you select boldface or italics via a keyboard command still remains. Also, the prices of the app. and the upgrade are exorbitant. There's a great need for a cheap, stripped down wysyg page creation app. that writes modern code and can handle Unicode.

    "Best of field"

    September 10, 2003  |   By JayS1

    Version: Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 2004

    Summary

DWMX is the best web authoring solution out there. The previous version was basically just a carbonization of UltraDev, and this version just seems to bring it to parity with the Windows version of DWMX, but it's much faster and less clunky than the previous version. I can't really tell that it's got a lot of new features, but the ones I do notice are helpful: obvious table sizing, more intuitive panel layout, much faster. Doesn't seem to add a whole lot, but it's still the best.
