This program is quite possibly the best tool for animation. It's sophisticated enough for high-end design but like all Adobe products uses a familiar UI that is easy to learn if you're familiar with the rest of the Adobe CS family.
Cons
None that I could think of. If you are a serious designer this is the program to get.

have never faced any crashing problem with CS3. (currently using Cs4 for my video auditing). I must say that this is the most powerfull video editing program I ever know.

it would be really cool if it wasn't so expensive. if you've got the money and don't mind buying this thing, it is cool, but if you don't-- don't download it. ugh, so lame, and how is it supposed to be a trial if it doesn't even let you use the features it is well known for??
lame trial i say, i couldn't try it, except for uploading images and video. not worth my time. but hey, just an opinion, if anyone else wants to give it a whirl, by all means do it. -

Unless you're going to buy the whole cs3 suite and you run a buisness, or you're planning on making a lot of money off of the things you make with Adobe products, just forget it. Adobe products are complex, time consuming, rediculously priced, and require an extremely fast computer to run efficiently. If you're making home movies, use movie maker. Even if you're making simple films, you could get by with Pinnacle or Vegas. After Effects is a prosumer program, not something for everyone.
