    Version: Adium 1.3.2

    "Simple and functional chat client"

by myles taylor on September 29, 2008

Pros: Easy to set up multiple accounts. Does everything it's supposed to do in an easy to understand way and doesn't have any unnecessary flash. Easy to combine contacts.

Cons: No voice or video chat. Very hard to incorporate, I understand, but still a con. Preferences can sometimes be confusing and hard to find. File transfers and direct connect are buggy.

Summary: I absolutely love Adium as my primary IM client. I use many different IM clients and it's so nice to just have one window for all of them. One of my favorite things is the ability to combine contacts over multiple IM clients. Also the Chat Transcript... read more

    Version: Adium 1.3.2

"1.3.1 highly unstable on my Intel MacBook (OS 10.4.11)"

    on September 14, 2008

Pros: 1.3.0 worked (practically) flawlessly for ICQ, AIM, etc.

Cons: 1.3.1 crashes consistently - sometimes within seconds of launching, but occasionally running until a menu item - any menu item - is selected.

Summary: Looks like the latest "fix" (1.3.0 --> 1.3.1) broke something. read more

    "It's good, but...."

    by mdobbs1979 on September 9, 2008

Pros: No multiple chat clients, you can link more AIM screen names than AIM will allow (AIM allows 7, Adium allows more)

Cons: logs me on and off repeatedly at times; frequently tells me my username has been logging on and off too often-even when I haven't been near my computer, crashes occasionally; often only shows part f my offline group list

Summary: Adium is about the only free option for Mac users who want a computer based (as opposed to internet based) multiple program IM client. It has its flaws, and a lot of them, but it's preferable to operating AIM and Yahoo messengers together.Frankly, I... read more
