"horrible tech service"

September 15, 2006  |  By Dave Creek

 |  Version: Address Book Reports 2.0.6

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Despite repeate requests over the past 12 days, I have not had the courtesy of any answer from this outfit about the following problems:

1. If the use Filofax Personal format it prints 3 pages to an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper which, I presume, is for scored paper that as far as I know hasn't been available for a long time. FiloFax now sells the individual 3.75 x 6.75 sheets.

2. I am unable to change the CustomNoraml|1 format. Aren't I supposed to be able to set up my own format?

"Great for people who can't read Address Book's tiny..."

Summary

...print
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
My wife needs reading glasses, and without glasses is unable to read Apple Address Book's tiny print when we try to print out a list of addresses for her. She likes to have addresses, with directions included as notes, in her car - and she doesn't want to have to put on her reading glasses to read them. Apple Address Book's printing options include "smaller" and "larger" print sizes, but they're hardly different at all - they look like 11 point versus 12 point to me. With this app I'm able to print out a customized address book, including most fields of potential interest (including notes), at just about whatever font and type size I want. The 18-point Times New Roman book I've printed out for her is just what she wants. While there aren't a ton of printing options, there are enough to justify the shareware price. Nice job, does exactly what it says it will (and quickly in 10.4) and nice, clean Apple-like brushed metal interface.

"Handy printing utility"

January 06, 2006

Summary

This is a very handy printing utility, which lets you print some formats that are beyond the limited printing capabilities of Apple's Address Book.

I use it to print detailed address books for my DayRunner. A PDF copy of that file also lives on the flash drive attached to my keyring. That way I've always got my address book with me.

The one time I encountered a problem with the program, the developer fixed it and issued a new version of the program - within hours. It doesn't get any better than that.

Give it a try.

"Elegant reports, but still too limited."

January 20, 2004  |  By ilinx

 |  Version: Address Book Reports 1.6.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I just tried the trial version, and I think this program produces very elegant, easy to read reports in a variety of formats, though the options are limited. I prefer the Card Style reports because you can include the information you want on them with less limitations. The program is still limited in the number of format options it allows, however. It would be great if you could decide exactly what information from Address Book you want and in what order you want it to appear, and if it had options to print out on a variety of different sized paper. Particularly, I was looking for software that would work with Address Book (I like using the OSX native application, even though it sure could be improved) to print out contact pages for my DayTimer planner. Planners come in awkward sizes. Mine is 3.75 inches by 6.75 inches, and DayTimer makes printable planner pages that I can then put in my DayTimer binder. However, there is no way to set margins and of course no preset to print to these types of pages (which are 8 1/2 by 11 but have perforations.) I imagine some people might want to use a program such as this to make business cards, too. It would be great to have those features, which so many address programs have, but for the OS X Address Book. I'm happy with the design of the final reports (particularly the card style, which puts the A, B, C sections in white type in a black block and the name of the contact in a grey block, making it easily searchable, so I wouldn't necessarily want more options there. Unfortunately, I'm having to use the program RollCall Directory because I am able to tweak the settings under Page Setup (it still prints info on the page I don't want, like page 1 of 3 at bottom, and basically needs to "tricked" into doing what i want it to) though I prefer the report design this program produces. RollCall Directory is nicer to use in terms of interface, as well, except I find it crashes on me frequently (using 10.3). If one of these two programs would add more options and more layout options they would be ideal.

"Inadequate filtering, and slow"

December 03, 2003  |  By clgood

 |  Version: Address Book Reports 1.6.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The search filter doesn't match that of Address Book: I tried to make an envelope for "First Entertainment Credit Union", and typing in "entertainment" filtered the list down to zero. I ended up with a compromise search that included one other name. The report on two whole entries took close to 15 seconds on a dual Gig G4.

The interface looks like it has the right idea, but I'm not buying yet.
