Editors' Review

Adblock Plus for Mozilla Firefox automatically stops ads from displaying while you're online, giving you a much cleaner surfing experience.

Control features: Although the idea of blocking every ad on the Internet sounds good, in reality we've become so used to ads that we want some of them. Some websites advertise content that we find interesting or that we actually like to purchase from. The features in Adblock Plus that allow you to quickly make allowances for certain ads are great for enabling the type of advertising content that you actually want to look at.

Great for beginners: You have a lot to choose from when it comes to finding a piece of ad blocking software. One of the biggest appeals of Adblock Plus for Mozilla Firefox is that it is well-suited to the beginner. Even if you're not used to working with this type of software, it should be no problem to smooth out your browsing by removing ads.

Removing additional ads: Just as ad blocking software can remove too many ads, it can also fail to miss some that you want to move. Adblock Plus makes it easy to remove components you don't wish to view, by just adding an option in the contextual menus to remove content from the browser window.

Filter lists are annoying: If you use too many lists at once, you can actually end up slowing down the software. The entire method of blocking using lists is slightly cumbersome.

Bottom Line

If you hate all the ads on the Internet, then you should take Adblocker Plus for a spin. Overall, the software works very well and does a great job of removing ads and giving you control over your Internet browsing.

"Very good, very effective"

May 14, 2015  |  By lorenestes

 |  Version: Adblock Plus for Mozilla Firefox 2.6.6

I have been using various versions of Adblock Plus for years, in combination with various versions of Firefox. It works exactly as advertised and is very good, if you ask me. I have never had any problem with it, whatsoever. When I get a new computer, some of the first things I do is download Firefox, bookmark CNET, and add on Adblock Plus.

None that I know of.

OMG, download it now...what are you waiting for?

"ABP allows floods of adware on your computer."

February 26, 2015  |  By Terry Gay

 |  Version: Adblock Plus for Mozilla Firefox 2.6.6

None, this program is a threat your security.

I had ABP as an extension on my Chrome browser and my system became inundated with ad malware. I disabled ABP and cleaned up the viruses, and then reactivated it and the malware immediately became a flood again. I don't know if that is ABP's purpose, to pose as a Trojan horse and allow your computer to get hit, but I am warning everyone about downloading this program. Comodo treats it as a major threat and so does Avast. Be careful. Just because its offered by Cnet, the onus is on you to get the facts about all the software offered in here.

Avoid this program unless you want to spend hours running boot level scans to rid your computer of viruses. I gave it a half star because Cnet requires at least some rating otherwise I wouldn't have given it anything.
