AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer blocks annoying banner, pop-up, and video ads from appearing on the Web sites you visit. It blocks everything automatically, but it's easy to unblock sites. AdBlock Plus does more than block annoying ads. It also disables tracking, malware domains, and social media buttons, if you tell it to. Acceptable Ads appear on ad-supported sites that follow AdBlock Plus community guidelines, helping to keep both those sites and this free, open-source browser extension that way (i.e. free). We tried AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer in IE 11.

Installing AdBlock Plus in IE 11 required a system reboot. The add-on works automatically. We looked for but couldn't see the familiar ABP browser button until we enabled IE's Status Bar (under Tools/Toolbars), which isn't displayed by default. After that, we could click the ABP icon to access the add-on's options, manage blocking, and more. Some of the extra features dialogs didn't display in IE 11, but it's easy to report issues and bugs, and the AdBlock Plus community responds quickly.

For the most part, the brand-spanking-new AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer worked as well as in other browsers, and much better than anything else like it, free or not. We clicked some tiles to open ad-laden sites we'd visited in our previous session. Some blocked ads showed placeholders, but AdBlock Plus closed up most spaces for a much tidier look. We also visited sites participating in the Acceptable Ads initiative, and we're totally in sync with both the spirit and the results. All IE users should try AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer.

Version: Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer 1.1

    Pros

    Works okay with most websites.

Version: Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer 1.1

    Pros

May work with Windows 7, I don't know

    Cons

    Does not work at all

    Summary

I could not get it to work at all. Tried it on a Surface Pro 2 with Windows 8. I finally ended up purchasing a copy of Adblock IE 3.0, which does its job well.

    "Works very well..!"

    January 08, 2014   |   By Yasir

Version: Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer 1.1

    Pros

For many years, I was heavily relying on SuperAdBlocler. I then switched to Adfender. and now, I am so glad that this tiny little program is my #1 ad blocker...! works so well on all sites especially on YouTube. I have been using it for the past four days with no issues. I have saved so much bandwidth and all the pages load up so fast. the installation was done on a fresh Windows 7 x32 Home PC with IE10 NOT IE11.

    Cons

However, when it comes to my privacy I seriously do not trust it. Therefore, I use this PC just to surf the internet and watch movies.

"It works, but not for long, and not on all websites."

    January 04, 2014   |   By GeoffreyJBrittan

Version: Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer 1.1

    Pros

It is quick to install, and works on most websites but there are sites where ads are not blocked, like New York Times.

    Cons

The program has to be re-stalled and repaired almost daily. The repairs are temporary.

    Summary

I use Adblock Plus on other browsers without a problem, but it does not work well in IE11. Program needs a major fix.

    "BIG MISTAKE"

    January 04, 2014   |   By fredg06

Version: Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer 1.1

    Pros

none, and I didn't even try to use it to see if it blocked anything. I found too many programs installed that I did not want, nor asked for.

    Cons

I have Windows XP, with IE8. At start of installing this mess, I clicked on "custom", then unchecked the Conduit Toolbar. I then installed Adblock Plus.
What I got was many free software programs I did not want, such as Mobogenie, Great Arcade Hits, Pass Show, and some files called nengine.dll, that Google said was placed by ads.

    Summary

It took me an hour to get most of this mess out of my computer. I am amazed that the Editor of CNET did not mention about all the free software, that installed itself without permission!!!!!

    "Good, but needs more work"

    January 04, 2014   |   By pete_po

Version: Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer 1.1

    Pros

Works generally well, blocks a lot of annoying stuff. Very easy to install.

    Cons

At least one: youtube doesn't auto-start (which is even good in a way) and has an annoying "loading" image over the video

    Summary

IE 11 on Windows 8.1 on HP all-in-one PC: works well enough to keep it. Loading speed seems unaffected. Nothing seems to crash, unlike the other reports

    Pros

    NONE at this time.

    Cons

Ditto on IE crash. Mine is with IE 11 win 8.1!

    Summary

Uninstalled AP, will wait for a future release before trying it again in IE!

"Not ready for use on IE 11"

    January 02, 2014   |   By Swen20

Version: Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer 1.1

    Pros

None. I've used abp with great success on firefox and chrome in the past. I quit firefox and chrome browsers due to constant issues unrelated to abp and found IE 11 to be very fast and productive. Only pro would be the history of abp working well on other browsers which really isn't a pro here.

    Cons

Causes IE to crash and forces reload of page or restarting browser. Has done this everyday since I installed abp. Mostly happens when IE is first opened but continues sporadically. I know turn off abp when I do my daily emails and youtube. Does not block most ads. I get tons of those ads that actually open a new window and start playing audio and/or video. I haven't experienced this type of ad intrusion since early XP days. Cannot open or find preferences for abp to add and stop things like taboola ads. Only options I get is updates, settings(which brings me online and only allows me to chose basic block list and the manage button only allows me to unblock certain sites, I can't add them to block them!) other two preference options are just disable everywhere and disable site.
ABP does so very little for IE 11.

    Summary

I'm assuming this is beta phase for ABP in IE and specifically IE 11. ABP has been great for me on firefox and chrome but for IE it's horrendous. Being I'm not going back to FF or Chrome I hope ABP does their magic and comes out with a release that actually works well in IE. I don't understand being IE is still the most used browser that ABP wouldn't have this mastered by now.
