Adaptec UDF Reader Driver

"Thank goodness I found this driver!"
Pros
A week and a half before the annual meeting of our congregation, which I serve as treasurer, my hard disk suddenly self-destructed on my 4.5 yo Windows Me computer. The new computer, running WINDOWS XP Home, wouldn't read the data backup disks created with Adaptec Direct CD. When I inserted a disk in the new RW drive, I was prompted to install the Adaptec UDF reader for Windows 95/NT. Not only did it not help, but then I got an error message at every startup saying the driver was incompatible and had been disabled. The message sent me to the Roxio Web site, which made no mention of Direct CD. I downloaded the 5.1.1.213 driver from download.com and--what a relief--all my data is accessible again!!!
TIP: Turn off virus-scanning software before trying to download the file.

Thanks for the descriptive message! My system is XP pro, and recently, after trying to read a data CD, it was giving me the same startup error message that the installed driver would cause conflicts and that it was being disabled. Likewise, the old data CD could not be read. As you recommended, the update through CNET also worked for me; the error message no longer appears and the CD is readable.
