"It Sees only (Windows/DOS) formatted disks/partitions"

    December 18, 2009  |   By jacques63

Version: Active NTFS Reader for DOS 1.0.2

    Pros

It gives the current state of the internal disk, in FAT 1 and FAT 2.

    Cons

If there are raw partitions on the Harddisk, then the software does not see it.
So if there is a bug within the root or Rigid Data Block (Root of the hard disk partition which makes the data "raw" it can't be solved. )

    Summary

In my situation i can't use the software. Within my PC there is 6 GB not accessable because the data is raw. If RigiDataBlocks are invalid then there is no way for to salve them.

    "Works but hs quirks"

    October 22, 2008  |   By tom_eric

Version: Active NTFS Reader for DOS 1.0.2

    Pros

    Intuitive, works and is free

    Cons

Like the other reviewers, lack of support for writing long file names is a real bummer. Less annoying but disappointing is the needs for a FAT32 partition to write to.

    "I got my files back"

    June 26, 2008  |   By jstonedotorg

Version: Active NTFS Reader for DOS 1.0.2

    Pros

Was able to get all of my files back off my crashed IBM 75GXP hard drive.

I wrote a review of my experience at:

    squidoo.com/Hard_Drive_Data_Recovery

    Cons

It truncated long file names, and took a long time, but it was well worth it.

"Only program that allowed me recover 25 Mb of files from the hard drive"

    November 24, 2005  |   By waterboy71150

Version: Active NTFS Reader for DOS 1.0.2

    Pros

Whole program fit on a 1.44 Mb bootable disk. Select and copy functions worked well. Displays long file names.

    Cons

Displays long file names but doesn't preserve them for copied files. Can only transfer files to floppy disks or another hard drive; support for CD writer or USB flash memory would be helpful.

"if you're desperate and nothing else works.. give it a shot."

    October 12, 2005  |   By MissNova

Version: Active NTFS Reader for DOS 1.0.2

    Pros

It.. starts up. And it's free. I assume it works in some cases. It also runs (only) in DOS so it doesn't require a bootable drive, which would be incredibly convenient if it found anything.

    Cons

Trying to recover a corrupted hard drive (NTFS) - Downloaded this. It's hard to run and turned out to be essentially useless in my case. Jumped through hoops to run it only to be told that it couldn't read my drive at all. I got better results from basic, unregistered File Scavenger. Try some other options first.

    "A data recovery marvel!"

    January 25, 2005  |

Version: Active NTFS Reader for DOS 1.0.2

    Summary

I lost everything after a hard drive crash--and nothing worked to get it back up. Before I formatted it and lost all of my work (of course my back-up failed at the same time!), I used this program to fetch all of the files I needed and send them to disk.

    "Does the job"

    July 21, 2004  |

Version: Active NTFS Reader for DOS 1.0.2

    Summary

I only used the NTFS reader program, but it was able to recover everyting I needed.
I booted a computer with corrupt HD to the local server and ran NTFSReader from there.
Maybe it was a bit slow, but I got what I needed. I also didn't run into any problems noted by others about it not being free or missing data.
