    "Careful when wiping portable media"

    October 16, 2012  |   By commentsguy1234

    Version: Active@ KillDisk 6.0

    Pros

Seems to be ok but demo version only overwrites with 000s. Regular version is 49.99.

    Cons

Looks like it killed my portable USB drive. When I went to kill drive it did not process the drive - it killed the drive designation. Then I had to try wipe it again. At this point I don't know if I can recover the drive.

    Summary

Probably OK for installed hard drives. Careful with portable media...

"I love this product and use it frequently."

    May 11, 2012  |   By pminneci

    Version: Active@ KillDisk 6.0

    Pros

This does exactly what I need it to do - COMPLETELY ERASE MY HARD DRIVE. This is great for fresh installs or re-deployments of machines. Also works great if you wish to sell/recycle your hard drive to remove all traces of information. Yes, the paid version allows for more intrusive/destructive measures.

    Cons

I have no cons to report on this software.

    Summary

You get what you paid for. I paid nothing and got a basic low-level formatting of my drive. Exactly what I wanted and expected from this product. Do you need to use this every time you reinstall and operating system - no. However, if you multiple patches/hotfixes installed, it's like putting Band-Aids over Band-Aids. I prefer to completely wipe the drive clean and do the latest patch/SP install.

As with anything, you need to understand what you're doing and the ramifications of your actions.

    "Great product"

    March 20, 2012  |   By starlilly

    Version: Active@ KillDisk 5.5

    Pros

Works great, just as described. This programs does as it describes.

    Cons

The con is that people dont understand what it is to COMPLETELY ERASE your hard drive. That MEANS YOU WILL have to put on your operating system AGAIN. If yo don;t understand this, than dont use it.

    Summary

I have used this on a hp and a toshibe comp. Both vista. You need to have your comp set to boot up from cd/dvd. There is nothing wrong with the program, it is the person using it that does not understand how to use it. And if you dont understand what ersing a hard drive is than get some good tech advice, as you WILL have to reintall your os system. That is what this program is for IS TO ERASE your hard drive COMPLETELY! I have had NO PROBLEMS.

    "Not worth the time"

    February 1, 2012  |   By johncown

    Nothing good to say.

    Cons

    "Terrible software"

    January 23, 2012  |

    Version: Active@ KillDisk 5.5

    Pros

    Nothing to be good.

    Cons

    Failed at the first try!

    Summary

Erased my extra drive but also corrupted my C drive to the point I couldn't boot up any more and have reinstalled a new OS. Wasted my 5 hours time. User beware! If you are going to use it, remember to back up your drive and all data first. Otherwise, it will end up just like me.

    "Good tool to have"

    December 5, 2011  |   By ehoagland

    Version: Active@ KillDisk 5.5

    Pros

As advertized, it will wipe out a hard drive (really fast)

It's good for wiping your drive completely when de-commissioning old computer equipment before disposal.

    Cons

Once the process begins, it cannot be rolled back. Stopping it will only leave your hard drive unrecoverable without a low-level reformat.

Make a mistake with this software, and you will regret it.

    Summary

Works as advertized, but use with caution!

    "not for beginners."

    November 29, 2011  |   By lahavyanai

    Version: Active@ KillDisk 1.1

    Pros

    Past Trauma

    Cons

    Etc.Past Trauma

    Summary

Twelve years ago or so, I needed software to do a format. I had no idea that this software is fatal, I learned that i needed the information that was deleted by kill disk. I sent the hard disk to a company that specializes in data recovery .and they said you can not save the data. I had no understanding of the program.
That's why I think that the company who wrote the software should show responsibility and warn users.they should explain clearly the dangerous for the beginners.
