"Most reliable backup software I have used"

    March 27, 2012  |   By jpeni

    Version: Active@ Boot Disk 5.1.2

    Pros

I have used numerous backup programs in the last few years...I am especially interested in bare metal backup and restore. I recently used True Image Workstation, but Acronis made a flaky replacement called True Image Home that I do NOT like - it does not even have a verify option. Norton Ghost used to be a favorite program until the new versions did not permit backup and restore from a boot CD unless Ghost was already installed. I also tried O&O DiskImage but found it was not as user friendly as Active@ Disk Image. The bottom line is that Active@ Disk Image is a good program with a simple interface that provides reliable and quick backup and restore options. This boot disk suite even includes a Partition Manager so I can reformat as well as fix my partition from the same CD.

    Cons

    No cons so far.

    "Does not reset password"

    September 19, 2011  |   By FraggerCrue

    Version: Active@ Boot Disk 5.1.2

    Pros

Boots quickly and easily into a windows type environment, complete with mouse driver.

    Cons

I need to reset an admin password on a new laptop. Though this will find user accounts, it will not reset the passwords. I'm not cheap; if I come across a utility that does what I need to do and does it well, I have no qualms paying for it.

    Summary

I'm not going to pay for the utility without having a chance to see if it has the basic functionality I need. That is the whole point of a 'demo' or 'trial' version of the software.

Don't waste your time with this one. If you want to pay for a utility, then you may as well go with an established company.

    "Saved my life"

    May 7, 2011  |   By VLPR

    Version: Active@ Boot Disk 5.1.2

    Pros

Saved my life! it installs quickly and both on CD or flash

    Cons

Some wizard would be nice, although it did not take me long to figure it out

    Summary

I have to say that it managed to pull the files off my drive when i almost gave up. I booted by PC bth with Win recovery CD and live CD with Ubunti it it would not see my files. I booted with Active@ boot and could see scan and see my files. I purchased then the full version and copied my files.

"On dual boot Win 7 Ubuntu system, product was worthless"

    April 15, 2011  |   By entropypawsed

    Version: Active@ Boot Disk 5.1.2

    Pros

10 day free trial that I bypassed for full functionality.

    Cons

Product a waste of time and refund hard to obtain. Product detected several hundred partitions on my hard drive where there should have been a detection of no more than six. How to make sense of that? TestDisk is free and works.

    Summary

If you are having difficulties with partitioning or bootup on a dual boot windows/linux system, stay away from this product

"Excellent way to get Windows working & installed again"

    January 26, 2011  |   By Lexgal2

    Version: Active@ Boot Disk 5.1.2

    Pros

The DOS version allowed me to get to the CD/DVD drives and reinstall Vista after the Windows fit-it options did not work at all.

    Cons

Not really a con, but a recommendation. Basic familiarity with DOS is helpful if you try the DOS version.

    Summary

After trying for several days to find a program to help fix the Windows error created by taking out a 2nd CD/DVD drive, and trying everything we could think of, I found this on Cnet. I downloaded the DOS version and using it I could see the hard drive was still there even though the Windows self-fix couldn't access it. With this product, we could get to a prompt to access the CD/DVD to reinstall Vista. No other program I downloaded to try got me to a place where I could access and fix via the Vista reinstall. I am now buying the Windows version...in gratitude for finding a program that worked and in anticipation of the next Windows problem....because there always seems to be one down the road sometime (after 25 years of using Windows it seems to me that it is a given). Taking my computer somewhere for a tech to fix it would have meant more hassle and probably more cost. I can't recommend it enough. Thanks, Cnet and thanks ActiveBootDisk creator!

"A great way to boot your computer when the OS fails."

    January 12, 2011  |   By gatewaynomad

    Version: Active@ Boot Disk 5.1.2

    Pros

Easy to use, does what it says.

    Cons

Not very informative, I had to fall back on my own knowledge to understand how a lot of the utilities worked.

    Summary

This is a great little program for getting your system up and running. I used it on a system that was getting the BSOD and was able to figure out that the problem resulted in the hard drive. Some of the Utilities worked slowly, but that could have been from the computer. The program is worth a try.
