"Atrocious Product"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
I am completely new to CRM. In starting a new company I downloaded the trial version of ACT and immediately began customizing the company templates. This alone indicated many many obvious software hiccups.
Besides that the program is dog slow.
Salesforce is a bit pricey for me since I don't have any customers yet. I'll look into other solutions.

"Crushed in Arizona. Sent it back."
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
As a certified ACT! Fanatic I was utterly disappointed in the software. Great feature concept but very slow, very buggy, locked up the system...a complete waste of time. Little and poor support from Best Software (actually the worst software I've seen in a long time).
The ACT consultant we reviewed this was similarly disappointed and implied that this software was beyond repair.
We sent it back and are looking at other alternatives for upgrade in the next year or so. -
"ACT 2005 disappointing"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
I,too, am disappointed to see ACT2005(v.7) not operate better. It slowed down my notebook temendously plus now I have no 2-way sync with Palm or Blackberry. The interface with Outlook slowed down so much that I was able to go get a cup of coffee before the screens came back up. As a long time customer, I find it hard to understand why they would rush this product to market without extensive market research. Bad job! Guess I have to go back to ACT version 6 but hate to do that!

"Much better than ACT! 6"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
Not sure what the others are talking about here. I have a 40,000 contact database that runs at least twice as fast than ACT! 6. It hasn't crashed on me once! ACT! 6 would crash at least twice a day on me. The speed and stability are great. This is the best upgrade I have done in a long time.

"Can't go wrong!"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
this is the easiest to use contact manager I've tried. I used to only use Palm, now I can use ACT! as my central database. Now I don't have to try to find specific notes on a clietn in my stack of notebooks. Everything's all in one place.

"Drastic changes and drastically slow"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
I've been using Act since 3.0 and upgraded everytime a new version came out. I even worked thru the bugs and problems when 6.0 was released. (Remember, no Internet Links). Anyway, I downloaded Act 2005 as soon as it became available. I had a lot of problems just installing the program. I had to search the knowledge base to find a solution. After I got it installed, it took a long time to load the program. The user interface (the contact screen) gradually comes into view. The field borders appear first, then after a few seconds, the rest of the screen appears. The program is buggy and extremely slow. You'll also have a lot of work to do if you've created many user defined fields. None of them will appear until you insert them using the design layout. All the phone numbers are incorrectly formatted, but that can be easily corrected. But that's not the point. They should be formatted correctly. How can a company miss something that simple and easy to detect. It makes you wonder what other things they've missed. My main complaint was with performance and the occasion illegal operation. Sometimes when I have a customer on the phone, I need quick access to information in Act. I can't make them wait for 30 or 40 seconds while my program loads. I asked for a refund after trying it for a week. They give you 30 days. If you HAVE to see it for yourself, download the free 30-day trial.

"Slow, unstable"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
I was really looking forward to this version of ACT!. I am an ACT! user for several years, everytime I try to switch to Outlook, I find ACT! is a better tool for tracking contact notes. ACT! 2005 is very slow compared to 6.0. The .Net features added to my computer have made other apps slower and unstable. Now Outlook is performing erradically and shutting down.
I'm very disappointed with this product and had such high hopes. Hopefully reviews like this will warn others. Best must do a better job or this product has run it's course. -
"Stick with ACT! 6.0"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
I wish i had read this website before buying the latest version of act! I'm either going back to act 6.0 or going with outlook contact manager or gold mine. many of the features of act 6.0 are gone. i used to be able to print several envelopes for contacts at once; now i have to print 1 at a time and must change format each time. I used to be able to search by keyword and once found go to that note. now it shows only the first line of the note & you cannot go to the note. I used to be able to change contact information to Cap only format for downloaded when all caps format. now i can not make this change. YUK they really messed this one up

"A 5 year wait for this....?"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
Pretty much the same from the user's viewpoint, although they finally upgraded the database so that synchronization should be better. But: still no real mass maintenance to speak of, slow, no significant upgrades to user functionality or interface, some important old functions missing, finding and maintaining history records a nightmare, integration with Outlook poor, integration with Pocket PC really bad. Perhaps they are angling for a Microsoft buyout. Give it a pass for now.

"Downgraded the speed and took away the dialer"
Version: Act 7.0.399
Summary
First let me say that I have been a loyal user of ACT! since 2.0 and have used every version since 1990. Since I had just upgraded to 6.0 a couple of weeks ago I was able to get the 7.0 for the cost of shipping.
With that said here is my observations after 2 days.
I notice it takes 5-6 times as long to open the program as all the previous versions. And each selection takes as long to process. Every program slows down with ACT! open- this is on a new 2.5GHz/ 512MB ram laptop. I would not want to think about using this on an older CPU.
The "company" feature is not very well thought out. If you have existing contacts at one company and wish to create one company listing, you will first have to print out or wright out the info (tel, adress etc) to inter into the fields. You cannot see the info when you add the contacts to the "company".
My computer went into "slow motion" the moment I start the program. I suspect it is the SQL server that is slowing do the process. It is taking up alot of power to run in the background.
In addition, they took out the dialer which I have always used. Now I would have to seprately purchase an adddon to have this feature. I also have not found a wat to "pin" the lower tab bar to the height that I find correct for me. It seems to reset to the old setting the next time I open the program.
The Opportunity feature does not seem to be any more enhanced than the old Sales feature. It is less complete that the "Business Contact Manager" in the 2003 Outlook. I cannot use Outlook due to my syncing with a Blackberry (not compatable and will cause all kinds of problems if you install the BCM with Outlook and the Intellsync tool.
All in all either use the old ACT! 6.0 or spend the extra money and purchase Goldmine. Unless they make some considerable changes in the future, this will be my last ACT! upgrade!
