    "Atari made something right?"

    February 21, 2006  |   By Miril Strike

Version: Act of War: Direct Action demo

    Pros

This is the one thing Atari made right, I loved the tactics with micro managing, marco managing is a small option here since there are option like capture POW's, hide in forests, use abilities, etc.

The graphics are good for a RTS and the races are balanced, I haven't seen so much balance since Starcraft. You have tactical weapons, and for the first time I have ever seen, you can build counter tactical weapons to disable them as they come down your path.

The ways for victory and tactics are just amazing, you can cripple your foes in multiple ways and their are a large selection of super units with weaknesses, so no unit is rigged to far.

The interface is very nice and new age looking. It comes on a DVD, so it is just one game packed game instead of seven CD's like some games. All the new games should be written in DVD format because they are more efficient.

Highly recommended for download and purchase, this is a must have game in your RTS arsenal.

This has to be my second favorite RTS game, it comes after Empire at War, then followed by Civilization IV, Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour, Rome: Total War, and Starcraft.

    Cons

Some major cons are that there are areas on the map, such as fountains, that they shoot up when your screen goes to them, if you notice, when you leave, and come back, they will shoot up again. They just don't stay up like normal fountains, and that is a bit annoying.

AK-47 units are a bit to weak, I had twenty of them on Sergent-Major-Jefferson on hard, and they couldn't kill him. The upgrades from the Ak-47 costs way to much for a useless RPG trooper who can only really kill static vehicles and are owned by tanks.

The opening music is the only really good music that they have at the menu, the rests are kind of bland.

    July 20, 2005  |   By Jade Knight 02

Version: Act of War: Direct Action demo

    Pros

Nice graphics, and solid gameplay. Installation was a breeze.

    Cons

Not really a con, but you should take note that you will need a fairly fast machine to run this smoothly.

"The Most realisic modern warfare game I have ever played"

    January 31, 2005  |   By paradox008

Version: Act of War: Direct Action demo

    Pros

    > Inteligent unit AI, the enemy comander tests your defences, and trys to hit you from all sides.

    > The best graphics I have seen for this type of RTS

    > A realistic use of air power, no airbases with 2 yard runways, you call in your fighters from nearby aircraft carriers by building radio towers. This is tricky for air to air, but creates spectacular easy to co-ordinate boming scenes.

    > Urban troop combat is the most advanced form I have seen, they can go anywhere in the building on top, in the roofs, and unlike generals, you can enter a building from the bottom and clear out the troops

    > Serious, staunch well acted plotline, no crazy CNC style characters

    > more realistic money system, congress gives you cash you have that amount no more, you have to deal with it

    > you can gain money from capturing POWS!

    Cons

    > I had some problems with this game it crashed my 3rd party GFX drivers but this is not something you can judge it for (unlike some people)

    > The enemy units are intelligent but flimsy, athough this is a Beta version so this could all change come the final release

    >Tricky air to air combat

    > No crazy CNC type characters

    > On map resources are scarse

    "Good game"

    January 19, 2005  |

Version: Act of War: Direct Action demo

    Summary

I'm not sure what these people are saying about corrupt files, but don't bash a good game just cause you got a bad Download - It's not the games fault. I got the demo on cd by maxpc and it's a good game, the only thing that sux is the people who give bad reviews to a game just cause of something else that wasn't the games fault. rate the game, not some publishiong problem online.
