"Buggiest piece of software I've ever used"

    November 7, 2012  |   By Coriandor

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

    Great looking interface

    Cons

Backups files are generally unavailable for viewing. This is due to a years old security issue that Acronis has never fixed. Backing up to DVD works once in a blue moon, but is EXTREMELY sketchy. 99% of the time, it can't see it's own backup files. They're there, it just ignores them and doesn't say why. What devices show up on the live boot is anyone's guess. You can't restore from the same drive you boot from. Tech support was terrible, the representative knew only the very basics of the product. I could go on and on.

    Summary

When it works, it's great. It works about 5% of the time.

    "Be Careful, Unreliable"

    November 2, 2012  |   By mamounfj

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

It works about 60% of the time.

    Cons

    1. If you upgrade it it cannot restore older images. It says the image is corrupted, even if the image has the same Checksum.

    2. For some very strange reason, sometimes it says the image is invalid when you need it the most few months later.

    3. If you want to test it, the back up seems to work smoothly with no Errors. But you'll get screwed when you try to restore days later!

    4. A very strange thing about it: Sometimes, you back up, and restore in the same day successfully. But when you try to restore 2 months later the same exact image, it tells you: Invalid Image or corrupted image.

    Summary

I am still searching for an alternative. It used to be good in the first 2 years when it came out. If you bought it, make sure to never upgrade as it will not restore images of the previous version.

If you have not bought it, do not buy it.

    "new user review"

    October 22, 2012  |   By weepus

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

as a new user i can point out that the installation process was smooth. no errors at all which in this day is pretty amazing. set up was simple, took me about 10 minutes to read what i needed to and start the backup process. restore. I did a test restore of a few documents and it worked with out problem. it was easy to find, select and restore.

    Cons

i've not experience any cons but I must say i am worried a bit given the 50 / 50 of 5 star verses 1 star reviews. I will just need to wait and see. I will continue to test this since i do not want to find the problem when I am trying to recover from a crash

    Summary

I've spoken with and emailed thier support and found them to be able to answer the questions pretty well. I tested this product before purchasing and did not find any problems. so far, so good. I have no problems recommending this product for its ease of use, low cost of ownership and ability to do what it says it will

"IT SAVED ME!!! True Image Home 2012 with the plus pack"

    October 21, 2012  |   By REDRUTHANN

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

    It restores your ENTIRE system
    Easy to use
    Very reasonably priced
    IT WORKS
Has different and customizable backups schemes
Can backup just files or full system
Can choose what files to backup

    Cons

Could be a little harder to work with for new users, but just follow the directions

    Summary

Acronis True Image Home 2012 with the plus pack.

    I can't believe it worked!!!

First off, let me set the situation.
I have an 18" HP HDX PREMIUM series laptop. I have 2 internal disks - C and D drives. I keep all files, pics, etc on the D drive, leaving the C drive for only the system and programs. My backups are kept on an external hardrive - D drive daily and C drive weekly. I work at home and use my laptop pretty much all day every day.

    The day my laptop crashed.

I had uninstalled and reinstalled a new version of a program which needed to restart the computer. As it restarted it, the Windows Updates started before it shutdown. When I put the laptop back on, it would not boot. It said that the 'boot device could not be found'. I started to feel sick and the fear of everything being lost was overwhelming.

I ran all of the diagnostic tests and contacted my laptop support. None of the troubleshooting steps helped. Therefore I could not reboot using the acronis recovery disk - NOT Acronis's fault.

I was very anxious. To be honest, I had many doubts that the Acronis would work. It is one thing to keep all of your files backed up, but it is a completely different matter when you need your computer back to the way it was - system and programs

Unfortunately this meant that I had to restore the system back to the factory installed system - a total nightmare...so I thought. After I restored the system, I installed the Acronis software and followed the directions. Good thing I finally created a boot image.
I was holding my breath the entire time!!
When it finally finished, MY LAPTOP WAS BACK!!!!!

I can not even begin to say how much I was relieved - I even screamed. Also, because I did have 2 drives, only the C drive was reformated and all of the files on the D drive were still there.

    In summary:
-So far Acronis is the best backup program I've used and very reasonably priced
    -It is simple to use
-ALWAYS backup both your system and your files
-Backup on an external hard drive, cd/dvd and flash drives are ok, but the external hard drive is best. Use the incremental backups.
-Don't forget to frequently create a new boot image! It is not a large file. Make sure you put it on a dvd/cd that you can use to boot up from the internal hard drive.

    "Everything worked perfectly..."

    October 17, 2012  |   By baster8

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

    - Automatically align your partitions if you have a SSD, once you do a recovery
    - Old partitions don't have to be the same size as new ones. Acronis resize your recovery image of your old partitions to be the same as your new partition.
    - Apparently copying over whole OS without copying the reserve partition is just fine.

    Cons

    - Didn't experience any.

    Summary

I highly recommend. I used the trial version. For the function I want to use, I didn't face any restrictions. I used it for migrating from my old HDD to SSD.

"Trial software lot of functionality blocked"

    October 6, 2012  |   By jdhaliwal

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

    neat layout

    Cons

    a lot of functionality blocked

    Summary

I'm sure this must be a good software but, you can't test it with this download because some of the functionality is not available. I wanted to see how it can backup and restore entire drive (colone). That is not available here. If you are looking for a coloning or a reliable backup sontware, try DriveImage XML from runtime.org

"Acronis True Image 2013 NOGO w/ Windows 7 Pro Explorer."

    October 5, 2012  |   By ecjones999

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

None, the system becomes essentially useless.

    Cons

On two machines the installation of this product causes Explorer.exe to crash intermittently when invoking the context menu. The failure rate exceeds 50%, and without explorer you can't get there from here. Without True Image 2013 things appear to have returned to normal.

    Summary

With a botched removal you are unable to go foreword or back. Therefore, make an image first, just in case the uninstaller quits (Mine did). Use only the proprietary uninstall feature, removing the Plus Pack first and then True Image itself. Since a trace of 2013 prevents re-installation of previous versions, a successful re-install indicates success (I hope).

    "unreliable and poorly suppported"

    October 1, 2012  |   By KarlMarx5

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

Great functionality (NAS support, user defined schedules and clean-up, cloud backup, etc, etc).

    Cons

A consistently unreliable product with each release fix some bugs but introducing lots of new ones. Their support is really poor. The latest is that they only provide 30 days of support for free. Email support tickets can take weeks to resolve.

    Summary

Who wants an unreliable support tool?

"Version 2013 is an alpha version, it is full of bugs."

    September 15, 2012  |   By svenvandevelde

Version: Acronis True Image Home 2013

    Pros

    - All kinds of backup types in one suite.
    - User interface looks nice.

    Cons

Acronis True Image 2013 is simply said, a very unstable software! Read their forums before considering to buy this software!

    - Non-Stop backup failing on my work PC (have a running support ticket, they
    need to revise their software...)
    - Non-Stop backup service crashing on my Media PC. Cannot recover from crash in any means.
    - Backups suddenly dissapearing from the explorer list.
    - NAS support is obscure. Limit amount of NAS'ses are supported. Why?

    Summary

I am using the software now for the last month. I am an existing client of Acronis, owning 3 valid licenses from Acronis True Image 2013.

Let my highlight my dissapointments here with version 2013, and with version 2012:

    1/ User support:
I've spend alraedy about 3 days (full days) working with customer support to resolve my issues.
    - Customer support accessing my machine, trying to identify the bugs, asking me the same questions over and over again. Although i am telling them what to do, how to simulate the same errors, they are not doing that, they are just asking me the same stupid questions.
    - Writing emails.
    - Searching and responding on user forums.

    Software Quality:
This piece of software is just not ready to go to the market. I cannot understand how such a company stays in business, releasing a software that contains that many bugs. The most issues that i am experiencing with it, is to work with NAS devices. Early warning, don't use any NAS device to backup your information using this software:
    - Your backups may suddenly dissapear.
    - Your backup files may become corrupted.
    - Your may suddenly experience errors, stopping the backup process, and you are unable to recover from it.
    - The user interface is really buggy. It crashes unexpectedly.
    - The user interface is not consistent. when backups are started in the background, it does not show in the user interface! Only after a while, which can take up to 10 minutes to show up!
    - Error logging is not consistent and correct. Actually, the logs show all goes well, with backups failing and crashing. Without any single error in the log.

They over market and advertise things which simply don't work. I feel tricked and cheated by Acronis that i have bought their software.

Small advice, try to install their software in try period, and try it out yourself. You'll see.
Look beyond the surface of the nice looking interface, and try to backup, restore from backups, restart your pc, stop backups, restart backups, work with NASes, disconnect networks and see what happens, restart your NAS and see what happens, etc, etc.
You will experiernce that this software is not worth to get all these nice credits from official reviewers, that's what you'll experience.

Actually, it is a shame that professional reviewers are scoring this software so high, it shows that these reviewers and not reviewing this software at all!

    Updated on Sep 30, 2012

Consolidation of backups also gives errors. I am experiencing this here. Not just one time. I had to restart a backup because of consolidation failing, or, not running at all. Also, the versioning system of the software has errors. It shows 12 versions in the user interface, there are 13 files on my drive, and when i press consolidate, it shows 2 versions... Acronis, please fix the root cause of these issues that i experience.
