"Fantastic Training in software management A++"
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
uninstalling and editing the registry and searching forum for help!! A++
I am so enjoying the Latest from Acronis, Number one in computer training. With this software on my computer I have had endless fun in the last month trying to get it to Install properly, Register at Acronis and Activate it so that it works. I have learned all sorts of things now about editing the registry, uninstalling software and rebooting.Cons
Non that I can think of. Well done Acronis for combining Backup with Maze Gaming!
Summary
Did you know that Win7 still has a utility called msconfig, so that you can disable all non microsoft services. This enables you to do a "clean install". Its the closest I have come to get the product latest build to install properly. Next comes excellent lessons in detactive work, trying to find how to access Support on the web site. Why you too can learn the patience of Job trying to sort out where exactly you go for a "real person" kind of support. I haven't yet achieved this either but their machine work just like real people. I did "chat" online last week, but no advice came back. He sent me an automated email request some details, telling me to reply and leave the subject line intact, with its support request number. Of course if you do reply, you get and quick response saying there is no one at this email alias. Clever!! Actually you have to go to their web site to find anything more about your support request, it is well burried, but keep searching. This is better that Lara Croft in terms of mystery. And if you don't activate, why the whole thing goes dead after 31 one days, so there is that edge of doom in there too. Laugh! Finally there is the interface on the program, this rates as one of the best I have seen, clearly laid out and who knows, it probably works.
I live in Vanuatu, which means that True Image on my computer cannot communcate with Acronis Activatioin Server( thats their rule about supported countries) So i eventually found out how to acitvate from another computer, going to their forum and searching offline activation, www.acronis.com/activation, once some 25 character codes are swapped over, it run as though nothing was wrong. I have found that it does work, though some of the posted comments make me nervous about relying on the backups. I have a least found that it creates complete backups in a decent 2-3 hours.
I loved True Image 10, and i am really enjoying this one too, but for different reasons
It has been a week now and Acronis.com is ow my home page as i wait expectantly for some sign that they accept me as one of theirs. I firmly believe that they can fix this and that they have made this software install and work on normal win 7 computers like mine. Many, many people are unhappy about them but this is just an attitude thing. If you look at it as a game its fun! When i get it to work am going to write a different kind of review here. Or should i say, when they get it to work I would like to say something about its range of tools, the speed of creating a full drive image, and cloud backup. I hope they do fix it because True Image has served me well. by the way, for those put off by this negative stuff, True Image 10 does work on Win7, even though if you try to install, it quickly tells you that it is incompatible. There is a work around which involves change the name in the Programs Folder, and understanding about making and using a Windows Recovery Disk, for when you do actuallly need to recover from a whole Disk Image. Just Google that one and its easy to find. So Watch this space.

The support is very slow to access, but once they respond they give reasonable feedback.
Finally, True Image disables windows backup, inserting itself where that used to be, which is a shame because if one has the space on a HDD, why not have two different types of backup? Acronis is in the dogbox until they take user concerns seriously and make the core backup system more robust and reliable.
