    "Worst software ever"

    September 19, 2014  |   By trek_b

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

    None. Full of bugs.

    Cons

It is incredible that in 2014 a company can place a product in the market as buggy as this.

Bought 2014 family pack. Installed on the first computer and configured some backups. On that computer even if the backup fails, everything is green on the main dashboard.
A simple change in parameters of a backup is not possible without corrupting the other backups.
Backup from a network server does not work. TI keeps failing connecting to the server, even if when configuring the backup there is no problem accessing the server.
Backup to a network server takes an eternity. Network usage 3%...
Random crashes and backup configuration corruption.

This software is unusable. DO NOT BUY IT. Looking for alternatives...

"OK if your thinking mirrors the Acronis geniuses."

    September 16, 2014  |   By moofah

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

Robust feature set. Helpful volunteer-run user forum.

    Cons

Program had difficulty handling situations when the external backup drive was not constantly connected (such as during travel). Unpredictably monopolizes computing resources for hours at a time performing unnamed background tasks. Known program flaws have not been addressed.

    Summary

Acronis has a long history in the backup software business and a helpful forum populated by experienced and enthusiastic users. However, my attempts to use their program in a fairly simple Windows 7 configuration using a laptop and an external hard drive ran into trouble. The difficulty seemed to be that the laptop was occasionally undocked and carried around.

In addition, I could never be sure when my computer would be available for use. At unpredictable intervals the CPU resources were consumed by Acronis maintenance routines that went on for hours without any indication of when they would be completed.

There are workarounds for these things -- some of them involving external scripts and program hacks suggested by helpful forum members. But the program itself seems bloated and buggy.

In short, if you use your computer the way the Acronis program authors think you SHOULD be using it, things might work just fine for you. Otherwise, get set for some frustrating moments and a round of platitudes from the support staff.

    "Horrible. Freezes at backup start"

    August 24, 2014  |   By Tzachi55

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

    Still looking for Pros.

    Cons

Worked about 10 days out of the first 30 days.
on the 32nd day it broke down. Does no backup as it freezes on backup start and going nowhere.
User interface on win 8.1 using QD screen is so skewed that you can hardly use it.

    Summary

    Total waste of money.
I had the old 2011 and used a lot. Upon upgrading to win 8.1 on a new laptop I bought the 2014 version and I'm sorry for that.

"Acronis True Image was a disaster"

    July 30, 2014  |   By Scott_A_L

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

    None at all.

    Cons

Their flaky software and incompetent tech help caused a permanent loss of data.

    Summary

Maybe the Acronis products and customer support have improved, but several years ago I depended on Acronis True Image for backup of my workstation. When a hard disk failed and the restore was being a problem, I called their tech help line. The combination of their flaky software, awful UI and incompetent tech help resulted in the permanent loss of some critical data. Then they jerked me around for several weeks, making promises they could not keep. Finally, the case was "upgraded" and a really nasty manager tried to upsell me rather than fix anything. I would never use Acronis products again under any circumstances.

"True Image is good but getting very big now"

    July 26, 2014  |   By rogermanawatu

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

    Very clear simple interface
Lots of ways of doing backups

    Cons

Heaven is high and the support staff for TI are very far away
    Can have problems installing
Will refuse to work with the next version of windows (but can be forced to anyway and works fine)

    Summary

I bought TI home in 2007 and started doing backups regularly. In 2009 I needed it and it came through for me and saved all my files and lots of work.
After XP gave way to Win 7, I bought a new computer and TI 2012 and started trying to install it. It was complicated by the fact that I live in Vanuatu in the South Pacific and it does not connect to their servers to do cloud backup. However to find that out was extremely difficult and had to threaten them before I got any response, and certainly no apology.
Now I have a win 8 computer and I want to access files and folders in the old backup, however win 8 won't install the old 2012 version of TI, and you are forced to buy the latest version. However this is all you do to work around that.:
Press your start button and type in gpedit.msc then hit enter. Or go to the Run window and type in the same thing. Then navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Application Compatibility
    Enable both settings:
    Turn off Application Compatibility Engine
    Turn off Program Compatibility Assistant
Close this, restart the computer, install TI 2012 and restart, hey presto it is compatible.
When you want some files, hook up your External HDD with the gigantic .tib file and use windows explorer to open it up and navigate to what you want. Only with TI installed, can Windows Explorer do this for you, open a .tib and it works very well in my opinion, allow
ng you to open, copy, and save as to extract your file or folder.
So my review is mixed, TI can work well, has a couple of traps, but it is better to use than nothing. and it can work extremely well when set up.

    "waste of time"

    July 20, 2014  |   By dumbassmalaysians

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

    appears to work fine

    Cons

the recovery disk will not run in Win 8.1
    (Linux kernel problem)

    Summary

I purchased this product back in 11-13 and assumed that it would restore the backups that it created for my Win 8.1 system. Wrong!

I got the whim to test the Acronis 2014 recovery disk one day and found that although it will try to boot it keeps giving the kernel error message. There may be some way to fiddle with your bios and get it to boot but I have wasted a couple of hours with Dell tech support trying to get it to work but to no avail. I have registered with Acronis but forgot my password and have never been able to reset it. Keeps asking for "email registration info" but rejects anything that I enter.

Save your money... get Macrium Reflect, it works.

"Has many bugs, needs big improvement."

    May 31, 2014  |   By Reshiram

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

    nonstop-backup feature.

    Backup encryption.

    Incremental version backups.

    bootable media.

    Cons

Bad, No GUI improvement after major updates, Low fps on progress bar.

Backups easily corrupt even cancle validation.

Bootable media won't detect optimal resolution. user have to set manually by setting "vga=ask"

Bootable media won't launch if user delete "quiet" command when creating Media.

No error messages if backup file is corrupt during Partition recovery. Progress windows crashes. and the partition will gone user need to create another partition manually.

Integrated in to Windows explorer by default, causing some explorer crashes or even whole system freeze.

    Summary

When I lost all my data, I trusted Acronis to recover my files. but backups are partically damaged and Acronis cannot recover it. so all of my backup copy is useless.

'm glad I tried this software before I purchase.

"WARNING: THIS SOFTWARE WILL DAMAGE YOUR COMPUTER"

    March 31, 2014  |   By steve001968

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

None. Nothing but problems with it and it's horrible customer services (which is chat only) to date.

    Cons

Garbage, absolute garbage that will DAMAGE YOUR COMPUTER.

    Summary

Sortware has a recovery environment that can be selected at bootup. The bootloader for this recovery environment which is only suppose to run if user selected at the normal startup choice of operating system has taken over the boot process and will not allow the machine to boot. After multiple issues with this software I consider it no better than a virus. Further Acronis then demands money to help fix the problem since they only support their VIRUS for 30 days. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS! IT WILL DAMAGE YOUR COMPUTER!

"Tip - get this free if you have a Western Digital Drive"

    March 3, 2014  |   By HeavenlyBeverley

Version: Acronis True Image 2014 2014

    Pros

Anyone who is thinking of getting this, you should know that if your hard drive is Western Digital you get this for free. Just go to the Western Digital site. And if you have a Seagate or Maxtor hard drive you get the Seagate DiscWizard for free (I think it'sa slightly older version, not sure but it is the Acronis True Image software).
This is undoubtedly one of the best (paid for) disc imaging progs around, and still going strong. I actually reboot to a clean system every time then I know, 100%, that there is nothing dodgy in my system. Yeah, it takes a bit longer, but it's nowhere near as long (and annoying) as constantly fighting viruses, malware, trojans etc. I just set up an external drive to save stuff I download to, otherwise that would disappear on reboot. About once a week I allow it to install all the updates etc that my pc needs and then make a new image (which doesn't take long as it's incremental).

    Cons

A lot of people couldn't bebothered to set up a system like mine, but it works for me. I think it's worth it just to know that no matter what crap goes down on my PC it's just a matter of restarting. You do need to have a system though or you'll end up restarting and losing important stuff. You could use a virtual system reboot and restore system but they are not as invulnerable as a true image.

    Summary

Very good software ... I started using it when Norton Ghost fizzled out. Make sure you undertand what you are doing though (ie MBR and partitions) or it could all end in tears.
