Version: Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0
"Version 2 was terrific but tech support is appalling"
Pros: Allows imaging of networked systems.
Cons: Convoluted and poorly documented image build process.
Summary: Initially, I purchased the product because to image 10 new Dell systems. The network component works okay but sometimes will not work with multiple computers. New releases from Dell are frequently not included in SnapDeploy's database so support is necessary. Despite having paid for 30 licenses and for the extended support, I only recently received a phone number to call. My last request for tech support was responded to without apology in 6 weeks. I sent several emails.
LAME customer service. Takes 6 weeks to respond to email.
Version upgrade from 2-3 means that new systems must use v3. Older systems need to be upgraded to V3 if reimaged.
These folks are just clueless. The best support resource so far is on Wilder's security forum but, I still need help with Universal Deploy - an addin that allows one to build a basic image, then deploy it to multiple PC platforms. There is scant mention of Universal Deploy in the lengthy but convoluted 'manual' and getting a response from support is unreliable. I'm dumping this turkey despite having invested close to $2000 in Acronis software since Jan 1.
Updated on Sep 2, 2008Regarding SnapDeploy - it allows deploying a standard image to multiple platforms - Dell, IBM, laptop, desktop etc. by including a driver package. There is no documentation for creating the driver package in the manual. There IS some poorly explained anecdotal info on Wilder's. Until now, I would say that Symantec has the worst customer service but Acronis makes Symantec look good!
