"still buggy; not reliable; hangs windows server"

    April 10, 2012  |   By dbsud

Version: Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server for Windows 11

    Pros

    can not find any

    Cons

    echo craig putnam's review
    1. buggy; hangs our server so it can't be shutdown
    2. never know if a backup will complete -- often just hangs
    3. We can no longer trust it
    4. Offshore, Indian support tries hard -- still waiting for call back for our "escalated" incidents;
    5. Upgrade from version 10 to 11 failed
    6. Upgrade from v11 to latest version 11 update still failed; required reinstall
    7. Our backups still hang
    8. Can anyone suggest a product that just plain works reliably?

    Summary

would not buy it again. v8, 9 were great products; this is garbage -- they've forgotten the most important thing about backup software; has to work every time, all the time

"Buggy software with AWEFUL, off-shore-only support"

    February 20, 2012  |   By gustoopera

Version: Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server for Windows 11

    Pros

The UI looks kinda pretty, it installs easy.

    Cons

Where to begin! Tech support is off-shore in India and is ONLY there. There is no escalation, no additional help and if you call, expect to be on the phone for 2-3 hours EACH TIME. The software is really buggy and will often stop responding. It also will hang your server if you try to reboot it, making maintenance of my servers even harder. You cannot use the VMWare backup if you use anything other than standard VMWare stuff - I am using HP VSAN and I have to back up each server individually - if I wanted to do that, I would have stuck with BackupExec. You cannot create a simultaneous multi-location backup, even though they say you can. I have two places I want to back stuff up - to a DAS on my backup server and a portable hard drive for off-site DR. If I want this, I have to create two completely separate backups and hit my network twice to get it done, even though I was led to believe otherwise that it allowed for multi-location backups. It just means you can span your backup. Sigh.

    Summary

All said and done, go somewhere else and verify the location of their tech support. This is nothing against off-shoring, but really, if I'm having this many problems, I should be able to escalate at some point to a person on-shore. I have left COUNTLESS messages and have escalated to managers and everyone I could get a phone number for with no luck. They just tell me to deal with it and call tech support. I can't believe I wasted $9k on this software at my company. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THESE PEOPLE DON'T CARE!

    "Remarkably buggy"

    September 23, 2011  |   By CraigPutnam

Version: Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server for Windows 11

    Pros

When it works, backup and recovery are smooth. Whole-system recovery works great, and recovery to a virtual machine could come in handy in a disaster.

    Cons

A vast catalog of bugs, from wonky UI widgets to entire features (Disaster Recovery Plan) that simply don't work. Support techs are clueless, lack listening skills, and likely speak a variant of English that you will find hard to understand.

    Summary

Look elsewhere for mission-critical backup software.
