    "A Craptacular Dud"

    April 4, 2006  |   By philmfan

Version: Acoustica Standard 3.3 Build 290

    Pros

    Nada! Nyet! Zip! Zilch!

    Cons

It was like trying to run the Tour de France on a tricycle with a flat tire. Very limited capability. Maybe it's good for some people with very limited needs but this thing was a total dud to me. Everything I tried to do it came up with another message telling me why I couldn't do it. I hate to think it was just because this was a free trial version - I mean, THAT IS NO WAY TO SELL SOFTWARE, PEOPLE! When I jump behind the wheel I expect zero to sixty, not to run out of gas before I even get moving.

"program is easy to use serves 90% of my needs."

    May 3, 2005  |   By rikfox

    Version: Acoustica Standard 3.2

    Pros

The sound editor i think is top notch. Havent been able to compare (or use) any it to any of the high end audio restoration programs but the utilities offered in this program are highly effective ...i would recommend.

    Cons

The De-clicker is kind of aggrevating sometimes because it can create more noise than what you're trying to get rid of. However i've figured out how to get around this after several months of use and until acon manages to fix this glitch, im able to tolerate.

"It's a pleasure to work with such an app."

    April 9, 2005  |   By Nikita

    Version: Acoustica Standard 3.2

    Pros

I tried many sound editors and recorders, CD rippers and sound converters and though I don't like Swiss army knives, Acoustica became a program of my choice. Mainly it is a sound editor supporting many formats and having lots of features and effects. I am engaged to voice over and narration and Acoustica gives everything I need for this kind of work: I record files, then I edit them and finally save them in the format I need. You can also transfer music from your vinyl records and tapes into CDs with noise reduction and automatic track splitting. With Acoustica you can rip audio CDs, convert files from one sound format into another and even compile and burn audio CDs (in .cda) out of your MP3 collection. The resulting quality isn't bad. The app isn't very hungry in terms of your computer resources and has a very pleasant, convenient and intuitive interface. The proggie is supported by a detailed help file and user guide in PDF which you can download from the software website. It's a pleasure to work with such an app. Highly recommended.

    Cons

So far (several months of working) I haven't noticed any.

"The best value in the industry"

    February 25, 2005  |   By madcomposer1

    Version: Acoustica Standard 3.2

    Pros

If you want to do semi-professional sound engineering but don't want to pay the thousands of dollars that good audio software can cost, you're in luck. Here's a program that's low on cost and high on value.

Acoustica has all the features you'd expect in a much more expensive piece of software, including parametric EQ, digital effects such as reverb, pitch shifting, and chorusing, a surprisingly good time stretcher, support for all audio file formats, and (new) the ability to burn CDs of your material from within the program. Of special notice is the new "automatic noise reduction" feature that is worth the registration price several times over just by itself. Imagine turning a scratchy recording into a good quality recording with one click. Mixes that I thought had irreparable surface noise are cleaned up with the touch of a button. Audio restoration and enhancement has always been Acoustica's strongest point, but this time the folks at Acon Digital have outdone themselves.

My PC is a rather antiquated model (750 Mhz Duron running Windows 98), but Acoustica runs smoothly and efficiently even when performing high-end audio operations. (I use a DX plugin for convolution reverb, which no other software in this price range will even think about supporting.) Customer service is also exceptional; I've received personal emails from top developers who went beyond the call of duty to help me with a driver problem.

In short, an absolute essential for the home recording studio, and perhaps even worth a look from the pros.

    "Worthy to have"

    January 5, 2005  |

    Version: Acoustica Standard 3.2

    Summary

User the software to prepare for CD-burning tracks recorded from a choir performance. Exactly matched the need I had.

Used parametric equalizer to remove specific frequency noises, crop tracks and edited beginning and endings. Noise filter seems promising (with careful tuning). Shows samling support up to 32 bit, 96 kHz. Has several step Undo.

Performance: 21 seconds to Equalize a 120 Mb Wav file (2.53 GHz CPU). Not bad.
