    "Without peer..."

    April 14, 2005  |   By Dantre

    Version: Accordance 6.5

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Been an Accordance user since the early 90s and on Macs (as an ex-IBM sys engineer) since 84. Helen and the crew are to be congratulated for a superb app. Many of my grad students are changing platforms because of it. If there was a 6-star option this would get it.

    "Very Nice."

    November 8, 2004  |   By iGreg

    Version: Accordance 6.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I tried earlier versions in OS 9 & found those versions clunky to install. Now, finally, it has installers and good ones that do the work for you. I only have the introduction package and the Timeline now, but will probably get the Atlas soon. I find the program fairly easy to use. One little annoyance is the fonts, even with font smoothing the fonts are not quite as good as the fonts on some of the shareware/freeware Bibles, so I guess this program is probably a carbon port and not cocoa. Also, I think Strongs definitions should be part of the intro package. All-in-all, very good, and the $40 price for the intro package is not too bad.

P.S. I wonder why the Atlas requires a CD to be ordered, & not a download?

    "Good but needs work"

    Version: Accordance 6.2

    Summary

The book navigation system leaves much to be desired, try looking at iBible for an example of how to navigate books and verses in the Bible... Also that icon and those that are in the drop down sheets are a horrible reminder to me of windows 95 please remove them. Outside of that this is the closest to PC Study Bible for Mac so until this software can catch up to in function and price its still not an option for me. Try comparing it to PC Study Bible Advanced Reference Library from Biblesoft if you need to see how Bible software should be packaged and function.

"Uncontestably the Best There Is ..."

    January 23, 2004  |   By rwebber6828

    Version: Accordance 6.1.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am a Professor of Biblical Languages and have tried many of the competitors' packages out there on both the Mac and the PC. I have the top of the line Scholar's Package from Logos installed on my office PC, but I continually find myself turning to the Accordance Program on my Mac for my studies. Accordance is elegant, powerful, and simply the best there is. The staff at OakTree Software are professional and friendly. The new pricing structure and contents of the new CDs allow the selection of more specialized and contemporary Bible texts. I'm thankful to have such wonderful tools at my disposal. I would like to see a more reasonable pricing for the modules and I think we have seen OakTree moving in that direction. Good work!!

    "Great Software (better price elsewhere!)"

    Version: Accordance 6.1.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
There is a warehouse distributor on-line which carries a previous version of this product at a much better value. For only $5 more, you get this software plus an entire mini-library. What used to be called "MacBible" from Zondervan is now the "NIV Study Bible Library" and contains about a half-dozen titles. Two of these titles alone, the NIV Bible and Study notes have proven an invaluable asset to my ministry. I used the Accordance demo (which only contains the books of Genesis and Matthew) for about a month and find its features a vast improvement over the original MacBible which I have used for over 10 years now. I have also seen this title available at my local Bible bookstore as well, with at least the NIV plug-in included, at a comparable price. It is nice that some of the more obscure translations are free plug-ins, but I've never attended a church that uses these (it would be fun to follow along using my iBook). The more mainstream translations are nearly the same cost as the software and must be purchased seperately if obtained directly from OakTree. I find this extremely frustrating and a poor comparative value when other sources are considered. I hope that OakTree takes these concerns to heart as it used to be buying direct from the manufacturer was a way to get a better deal for the consumer.

    "VERY PLEASED"

    December 5, 2003  |   By joshua_d--2008

    Version: Accordance 6.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
OakSoft has proven over the years to be very faithful to their customers. The version 6 upgrade is a beautiful example, and I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone even remotely interested in getting some Bible software, even on the emulated PC version.

The new simplifications made to the GUI are exactly what was lacking from the 5 series. The modules offered only keep getting better, and the easy of driving around to all of it just got way easier. Overall, very well worth the asking price, and easily worth the upgrade price. If you know what's good for yourself you'll get this!! =0

    "hallelujah & Amen!"

    Version: Accordance 6.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It is great to see a developer respond in such an thorough & thoughtful way. 6.0 is indeed worth the upgrade & offers much to any possible user. It really sounds like they are working hard towards simplifying things all across the board.

Even though I stand by my review of previous versions, I have deleted them as it seems that the critiques have been noted & the problems are well on there way to being corrected.

All developers should take such pride in the software they produce. I really can't say enough about the amount of support these people offer.

    "Super upgrade"

    December 1, 2003  |   By macdmcg

    Version: Accordance 6.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a completely overhauled interface that saves space on the desktop and makes the icons much easier to learn and use. The program has gotten more refined and user-friendly to match the power of Panther.

Looking into the PC comparable Windows program called Scholar's Library from Logos as a gift for my father (a Greek/Hebrew scholar who also earns a living as a minister), there was no comparison to the ease of use, attractiveness and usability of Accordance. I guess OS X simply makes ANY Windows program more difficult to use, clunky, out-of-date and flat ugly.

Even though the available library (at a whopping $450 actual selling price when negotiating with the salesman on the phone) is larger than the Accordance collection, I wouldn't trade it for the Scholar's Library. My work simply flows better with Accordance and Panther when compared to working on any PC.

    "Beautiful Upgrade"

    November 29, 2003  |   By rwebber6828

    Version: Accordance 6.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This upgrade addresses many of the criticisms of previous posts. It cleans up the interface, adds some beautiful OS X icons to the tools pallete, and combines the two tool bars into one. Screen real estate is preserved by implementing tabbed windows. It really looks good. Visit the web site and download the new features PDF.

This really is the best Bible Study software out there for the Macintosh. That said, it still is pretty pricey. I wish Oak Tree would make this a little more affordable for us.
