Acamar Rising

CNET Editors' review

by: CNET Staff on February 27, 2009

Users willing to invest a little time may find Acamar Rising an action-packed, polished space shooter. In this first-person game, you must use your eight available weapons to blast incoming asteroids and aliens to kingdom come. Whenever you smite an enemy or break up a meteor, you'll earn cash you can use to buy more weapons and shields at the end of the level. Controlling your ship, switching among weapons, and firing require you to use multiple keys as well as your mouse, so some users may take a while to get the hang of the game. The developer has thoughtfully included a tutorial to reduce the learning curve. We have no complaints with the 3D graphics, which show excellent detail and texture, nor can we gripe about the music and sound effects. We would prefer a larger feature set (especially the ability to reconfigure the keyboard controls), but you can at least choose from several difficulty levels. Acamar Rising may frustrate casual gamers, but it's likely to please seasoned fans of the space-shooter genre.

Publisher's Description

From Beteo Software and Games:

Battle your way through waves of asteroids and aliens in dramatic space environments. As the captain it is up to you to protect the spacestation from incoming asteroids and eliminate the alien threat. Battle many different hostile alien fighters. Collect power ups to supercharge your ship and weapons. Earn enough money and you can add the new gravity beam weapon to your arsenal. The asteroids and aliens are no match for the power of this weapon.

Version 3.03 features new graphics, new AI, added a new shield and energy system.

    "TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE"

    September 24, 2011  |   By chosen_by_grace

    Version: Acamar Rising 3.03

    Pros

    decent graphics

    Cons

TERRIBLE, the asteroids are small and the graphics cluttered, it's chaos everywhere going too fast. It's hard to tell what from what because everything is dark with poor distinguishment and moves way to fast to be fun and you lose really fast.

    Summary

You can barely get past the first level, and impossible on the third, AWFUL.
