    "Excellent Webserver"

    November 2, 2009  |   By KaiHansen

Version: Abyss Web Server X1 2.6

    Pros

I have professionally used various flavors of IIS since its inception and was generally very satisfied. OS's were Windows Server and/or XP. Now that I am retired, I moved to Vista Home Basic on my new laptop, It runs like a charm.

    Cons

No negative experience. I needed a webserver that would run on Vista Home Basic and supports Dot Net, and found Abyss. It is easy to set up and maintain and runs like a charm. I am running Dot Net with a back-end databases Access and SQL Server.

    Summary

    Highly recommended!

"Extremely easy and very well designed."

    September 7, 2009  |   By mortal-hickory

Version: Abyss Web Server X1 2.6

    Pros

Every thing is well explained and can not be more easier then this. My router is Dlink Dir-655, i just installed it on my laptop and in a minute it was runnin. it did not required any settings for my router to access the abyss x1 2.6 server on LAN.

    Cons

    None...it s simply awesome.

    Summary

i think it is the best of its kind and it is extremely easy to use it. Thanks to all developers of this great software.

"Perhaps, I am an idiot; but it did not work with me."

    July 6, 2009  |   By Guy_T

Version: Abyss Web Server X1 2.6

    Pros

None, except tons of instructions about howto

    Cons

No way to get my website created. I wonder that after 1 mn ++ downloads, I am the first to review. Did all downloads go to the recycle bins?

    Summary

I filled up the setting up form with Name and Password as requested. I wrote a "Hello world" in HTML, saved the file as requested, entered my http:// address in the browser, as requested, hoping to see my new born site. But, at that stage, a cryptic message asked me to re-enter Name and Password again, which I did... to be requested again for the same.
Sorry, but I never have had to enter a name nor a password to visit a public site.
The Help instructed me to re-configure my Router and my Firewall, two good friends of mine that connect me to any website without whining and I did not want to modify.
I gave up at that point and erased the prog. (Which might be fine for a super techie).

    "Perfect for offline development."

    February 13, 2009  |   By JimSelleck

Version: Abyss Web Server X1 2.5

    Pros

Light weight, small footprint, rock solid alternative to Apache or IIS. Great for development, but ready for prime time.

    Cons

None found after 2 years through the versions.

    Summary

You can buy the X2 version to run a real production web site, but I don't know how Abyss would perform against Apache or IIS in a real-world situation where connection pooling and session/memory management are required and thousands of hits are coming in per second.

My need is for a web server that only has to support one connection and does the job exactly the same as IIS or Apache and Abyss does that perfectly. I develop web sites using a lot of ASP, PHP, Ajax, Javascript, with pretty big MySQL databases, and Abyss X1 has been my perfect lightweight answer.

    "DNS Hijack Attached to Download"

    December 6, 2008  |   By markmyers58

Version: Abyss Web Server X1 2.5

    Pros

It was easy to configure. Easy to use. Would be a great package except...

    Cons

The installation infected my system with badware that connected my system to a DNS server in the Ukraine. NIS2009 keep reporting various bits of Malware/Virus trying to download everytime a browser would come up. Identity theft is now a possibility,

    Summary

As I said about, the program was wonderfully functional. It set up easy and allowed me to create my own private intranet for my network with ease. That being said, the 18 days that I spend removing the malware (kdux.exe and kdux.ren) and the sudden reassignment of my system to a Ukrianian DNS server IS unnacceptable, Because of this redirection, I have to be very concerned over potential thefts of my identity, and potential comprimise of any bank/credit accounts I have that I work with online. Unsolicited popup adds just appearing on the desktop at random intervals was also not acceptable. Nortons blocked downloaders, keyloggers, virus and other malware that would simply appear without warning. The DNS hijack is nearly impossible to remove using normal means. 18 day of investigation boiled down to 12 hours worth of work to remove the compromise without having to resort to restoring an older backup. (my bad for not backing up more critical data more often). I did finally remove it, and all is back to normal now. But the bottom line is Abyss has lost my business for any product they may develop. I just do not feel now that Abyss is trustworth. And Download.com/Cnet has become a poisoned site to me. I am very disappointed that this was not caught before it made it to the public download section. It was (and will be for eternity) the last download I will ever trust from Download.com.

"In all my years of searching. I have stopped searching."

    June 20, 2008  |   By wiseguy12851

Version: Abyss Web Server X1 2.5

    Pros

Never in my life have I been so impressed, It's hard to sum up. I can say for once that this software is 100% trustworthy and installs in seconds. It amazes me every second as I always learn something new. The features are beyond any software and its FREE. not a free demo... it's free and has no spyware or adware. It's easy and makes your cut's your expenses with other companies. Now everyone can host their own servers... on almost any computer.

    Cons

Everything was great and it's 100% free as it promises, you have all features. The thing I dislike is if you want to double everything and start more than one server you do have to purchase it. Normal companies even big ones have only one server. It's a very small dislike.

    "Great Web Server"

    April 3, 2008  |   By joshblaine

Version: Abyss Web Server X1 2.5

    Pros

Easy to use. Small Footprint indeed.

    Cons

Only supports one host. Looks like this free version X1 is to get you to buy their X2 version that supports multiple hosts.
