"Good for general use but not serious use!"
Version: AbsoluteShield File Shredder 1.41
Summary
This program is okay for the casual user to eliminate files as long as advanced data recovery is not being used. Be extra careful otherwise by changing a file's name, extension, and attributes (propertiesplus) then encrypting it at least once (sifeu/axcrypt) it before shredding is done! Also check for keylogging/spying software and hardware (under keyboard) as well as getting rid of other evidence using other programs (spybot- windows usage logs, cleanup - index.dat, etc) if you are ultra paranoid about things which you should be (think worse case scenario)! Doing this on an external hard drive that you can easily hide is even better!

"Doesn't completely remove data"
Version: AbsoluteShield File Shredder 1.41
Summary
I tested this program out and then used a file recovery program. I was dismayed to find that, while the data was generally wiped, the deleted data was still there! Some of the deleted data was not usable, but the filenames were there intact, which was worrying.

"As good as BC-Wipe"
Version: AbsoluteShield File Shredder 1.41
Summary
BC Wipe was the best and free a few years ago. AbsoluteShield File Shredder 1.41 has fit the bill and unlike the BC wipe, it's free.

"Nice Idea - Badly implimented."
Version: AbsoluteShield File Shredder 1.41
Summary
I installed the app on XP then turned on 7 pass shredding. IT took ages and didn't show and progress bar, I used the context menu and it simply called the full application which is a bit cumbersome... I am also not sure how secure this is as it doesn't mention the algorithm used. But it is Free so what have you got to loose ? nothing.

"Does exactly what it says"
Version: AbsoluteShield File Shredder 1.41
Summary
this program is effective and useful. It shredded the useless files, short-cuts, etc., and allowed me to shred with the use of the right click button on the mouse
