"AbiWord... Great for a free program!"
Version: AbiWord 2.2.9
Summary
AbiWord helped me survive my first semester at a four-year without having to spend $200 on Microsoft Office. I hate that it doesn't do TABLES!!! That was very inconvinent. But you CAN have three different columns on one page, like a newspaper, that's kind of cool. So I'd say if you're trying to write some papers or letters, this program is so much better than Microsoft WordPad, which is the only program I had to use before.

"Unstable, Unfinished"
Version: AbiWord 2.2.9
Summary
Formatting is a nightmare. The visual you see in the program does NOT translate to what it will actually print on page. It crashed Frequently. It will often mark words that in this day and age are common as mispelled or unknown. Whenever it marks a word as mispelled, it rarely comes up with teh actual correct spelling. It's a nightmare. Two Thumbs DOWN

"Great Product For The Price"
Version: AbiWord 2.2.9
Summary
Great for terrible spellers like myself, although the library for mispelled words could be larger, you have to try several variations to get correct spelling. Save documents every 10 minutes as it tends to crash often. Overall it's a great product for the price... Thanks goes out to all Freeware creators!!!

"It does all I need"
Version: AbiWord 2.2.9
Summary
I've never encountered the problems the pervious user noted (if you have problems like these, do not think that they apply for everyone). The program works fine with me and is perfect for my needs. A great job has been done with it and for nothing in return. You can't beat that with a stick.

"Shuts down several times"
Version: AbiWord 2.2.9
Summary
Nice interface and good functions. But the program shuts down several times during use. It shuts down when you paste text, when you try to insert pictures etc. Do not use it.

"Would stop freezing up"
Version: AbiWord 2.2.9
Summary
Couldn't handle a simple table layout! Limited image importing (few supported formats).

"Good, but not the best"
Version: AbiWord 2.2.9
Summary
AbiWord is a good processor, but it is not, in my opinion, superior to the free version of Atlantis (Atlantis Nova at rssol.com).

"Skip this one, Use TextMaker instead"
Version: AbiWord 2.0.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
AbiWord seems to be built for the 7-year old crowd, and it does what a 7-year old would do with a word processor â?? and that ain't much. Lacking certain essentials and the inability to customize the program is a big turnoff. Skip this program and go use TextMaker instead at:

You won't regret it.
