"Wee bit frustrating"
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
It is free.
Cons
Using WINXP, it would not load a text file, I could not copy and paste from another file to AbiWord, and too often I got the error "Program is not responding." when I checked the Windows Task Manager to see what was taking AbiWord so long to respond.
Summary
A text editor would work as well.

"Can't completely un-install"
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
Free, opens many types.
Cons
If you uninstall it, the file type still is in file extensions.
Summary
I was looking for a free basic word processor. Something more than Wordpad, but still pretty basic. I tried AbiWord and TinyWord, and choose TinyWord. Even though I uninstalled AbiWord, it's file type shows up on all my "Save As" menus, and as the default. I just want it to go away.

"Easy to use"
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
I like the software, Because its very easy to use.
Cons
Haven't figured out the hole software yet, but i will in the next feature.
Summary
I really recommend this program. And the good thing is its free to get and well worth to get. But if it wasn't free its well worth the money. To the people that made this software, great job.

"Hyperlinks make AbiWord crash"
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
Its free and easy to use as long as you dont want to put hyperlinks in.
Cons
Hyperlinks make it crash occasionally and sometimes make your documents unreadable by any word processing program on the planet. I just lost two weeks of work because I put a hyperlink in over an apostrophe. That is stupid.
Summary
Use this program if you want to loose weeks of work.

"Like it a lot. Used it for about 2 years."
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
Easy to use. 22MB of hard drive vs.500MB for OpenOffice. Used OpenOffice 1 year before I tried ABiWord. Used MS Word for about 7 years and Word Perfect for 8 years (15 years total processing complex legal documents in my law practice).
Cons
As a freeware basic word processor there are no cons except I always change default font to Verdana (very easy on the eyes). I used Arial for many years but I switched to Verdana ab
Summary
Great for basic word processing.
-
"NOT EXPECTED"
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
a perfect second best to microsoft word ,since it does most things that does.
Cons

OR WILL THEY ?Summary
I downloaded this from a seperate site, then thought this is too good to be true,so got rid in case it would cause damage to my comp...THEN I READ cnet reveiw and put it back on and that I am
very glad that I did. -
"It's good enough for me."
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
For something which is free, you can't really bit this program. Sure it may not have the bells and whistles of the microsoft alternative but I certainly don't needs those bells and whistles.
Cons
There is a compatibility problem with some library computers when I want to print out documents in the format used.
Summary
Great for free.
-
"Just your basic, cookie cutter, free, text editor."
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
Free, basic GUI, easy to use.
Cons
One of it's pros is it's cons. It's lacking in some ways, though indescribable, and some might say it has a "too" simple user interface.

"Good alternative to MS Word for basic use"
Version: AbiWord 2.8.6
Pros
I recently downloaded and installed AbiWord for a friend, who didn't want to pay $99 for MS Office iin order to create simple Word documents. It does the job, though not as conveniently as Word, in my opinion.
Cons
1) I wish one could set ".doc" as the default format for saving files.
2) In general, i found AbiWord to be a little more difficult to use than Word, especially for computer novices.Summary
Though not perfect, AbiWord is a reasonable free alternative to MS Word.
