"From an IT Pro: do not buy this!"

    September 22, 2013  |   By StrattonHouse

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp 14.0.1001.146

    Pros

    none.
Zero stars was not an available rating.

    Cons

I have worked for years with PC Matic from PC Pitstop.com and I know it works brilliantly. I was prompted to try AVG PC TuneUp so I ran an A-B test. I knew my PC was running great, so I tried AVG PC TuneUp. It reported thousands of problems. Without running 'fix', I ran PC Matic, and it found NOTHING. So which was lying? I set a restore point (ALWAYS do this when testing) and ran TuneUp again. Again thousands of faults, but they were all different than the first run! So I clicked 'Fix', which only took seconds. Since AVG PC now declared my PC to be perfectly clean, I immediately ran TuneUp again. Again, thousands of reported faults, and different from either previous runs. To find out if it created new problems, I ran PC Matic again, with no problems reported.

Clearly, AVG PC TuneUp just randomly generates the faults list.

Unlike johnboyk, oscarius3 and singularity607, my 15-day trial did no harm to my PC, but I'm a fanatic and run 4 independent system watchdogs.

    Summary

AVG PC TuneUp is a complete fraud. If you just burn your money, at least you'd get a little warmth from it.

DO buy PC Matic (http://pcpitstop.com/store/pcmatic_security_scan.asp). It cover 5 PCs for a year, you can always get it for $49.99, and often get them down to $24.99. You AVG fans may find it odd, but PC Matic actually does exactly what it says, and my PC always runs like new!

"DO NOT USE THIS UNLESS YOU WISH TO BUY A NEW COMPUTER"

    September 20, 2013  |   By johnboyk

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp 14.0.1001.146

    Pros

    None at all

    Cons

Promises, promises, promises, non of which are fulfilled.I'd used AVG's free antivirus for years and never had a problem, and never spent a penny.I thought I owed them and decided to pay for something for a change. I've recommended them to family, work colleagues and friends, but never ever again.
My laptop is totally useless now. It freezes up when browsing, drops out when it's booting up, shortcuts don't work,it's slower than it's ever been and sometimes won't shutdown. I have been in touch with them, and I do have a case number, and I have complained and I have ask for a refund but to be honest I've got better things to do with my life. So don't touch AVG and be happy

"DO NOT USE THIS, MY NEW COMPUTER IS NOW A BRICK"

    September 18, 2013  |   By oscarius3

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp 14.0.1001.146

    Pros

    NONE. WHATSOEVER.

    Cons

Appears to shutdown and delete important aspects of your OS/hardware.

My new computer is potentially wrecked.

    THEY CHARGE FOR THIS ****!

Customer support (after an hour and a half wait until 1:30am) said it was a fault in my hardware and nothing to do with AVG.

    Summary

Don't let this monstrosity of a programme into your life.

    September 16, 2013  |   By sonoma95446

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

While AVG is pretty non-toxic as an antivirus, PC Tune-Up is a disaster for many people. It's registry check is flawed and if not updated properly by the company to concur with MS service packs can really hose an installation. I recommend using CCleaner for registry cleanups and backup reg when it asks. And always check to make sure you have the latest version of CCleaner and best of all, "It's Free".

    Cons

    Read the above

"DO NOT INSTAL - worse than a virus."

    September 7, 2013  |   By singularity607

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp 14.0.1001.146

    Pros

NONE WHATSOEVER. Well one - made me realise never to trust AVG again.

    Cons

I bought a new HP PC on 19th August 2013 and by today 7th September 2013 I had it finally all set up to my liking. I had installed AVG anti-virus and been receiving prompts to give AVG PC TUNEUP a one day free trial. Don't know why I did but I did and it destroyed my profile. I couldn't even access the Control Panel but I found that my only route online was to open AVG PC TUNE (the only program I could open) and indicate that I wished to purchase the product and with that by magic I was online. There I found out how I could uninstall this virus from my PC. After all that is what it is. DO NOT INSTAL AND NO WAY PAY FOR IT. I have had far less trouble with real viruses and Malware.

    Summary

DO NOT INSTAL AVG PC TUNEUP - SKULL AND CROSS- BONES

    "*** PROFILE IRREPARABLY DAMAGED ***"

    September 1, 2013  |   By DonotInstallMalwear

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

None - Not one. Do not install.

    Cons

It has toileted my computer. It installed itself without asking and has screwed my profile. It has deleted all of the restore points - loads like it is free then expires the license and as above becomes nag wear. I trusted and always recommended AVG - the friend has become an enemy.

    Summary

DO NOT INSTALL THIS UTTER CRAP.

    "WARNING--VERY DECEITFUL MALWARE--WARNING"

    August 26, 2013  |   By firewatch54

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

There are none! I used to trust AVG. They have betrayed us all!

    Cons

This is malware! It will use stealth to get in and destroy your computer from the OS up!

    Summary

I have always been a fan of AVG. I have had AVG FREE installed on my computer for a while now. There didn't seem to be any problems....that I associated with AVG anyway. My computer gradually became slower and started freezing all the time. I thought I had malware that wasn't detected so I did some research and read reviews. Malwarebytes was hailed as one of the better ones and I was glad because I was already running it but the problems persisted so I also installed HitmanPro 3.7. I really was impressed with this cloud based malware detector. It seems to cover the areas that MBAM doesn't get to and they are compatable with each other and AVAST which is my current antivirus program. While I was 'out there looking', I saw the AVG PC TUNE UP on Downloads.com/c/net. I saw AVG as a trustworthy brand so when it said it would help me clean up my pc and free it of its chains I downloaded it straight from the AVG website. I was impressed at first by the areas that it covered and how it seemed to get into the deeply rooted messes and causes. It was user friendly and "helped" me address many issues. Unfortunately I believe now that the AVG FREE that I was running was the cause of those problems. A set up! I am a very careful surfer and do not trust most websites and "programs". I was moving right along when I opened up the TASK MANAGER to inspect it. Immediately it asked me if I wanted to make it my "default task manager" instead of WINDOWS TASK MANAGER. Before I could even consider the option the screen changed. Something about that just wasn't right. Directly after that my pc got even worse. I think that the free version of AVG is used as bait. It comes in the name of a formerly trusted utility brand that used to actually protect, and screws up your pc so that you will seek more help from them. This program took over my computer. A form window popped up that was prompting me to buy their full version of PC TUNE UP and I couldn't get rid of it. I tried to shut down my pc but it wouldn't let me. I ended up having to do a hard shut down. I started my pc again and tried everything I could to get rid of everything AVG! I still don't have Windows Task Manager back and I don't know how to do that. I believe that it gets rid of task manager so that you can't kill their programs running in the background that are destroying your OS...just a few important files and registry keys at a time. It has a death grip on my OS and I don't know what to do.

WE HAVE ALL BEEN BETRAYED BY AVG!

By the way. I am one of those people who never does an express install for anything. I always go through and "unchoose" all the extras that they try to slip in. I hate tool bars because to me they are only malware and they take up space in my browser. This is no accident on the users part. This is a deliberate act on the part of AVG. Can anyone help me with this?

Mr. AVG. You can see here that this isn't just one or two people who don't know how to install a program. This is an attack from your company and team. What will you do to make it right?

"Pretty much rubbish, just slows the computer down"

    August 26, 2013  |   By Ryan4586

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

    It thinks it works.

    Cons

Put this software on both my Laptop and PC. The Laptops getting older and needs a boost in speed but this has caused it to pretty much act like it runs on coal. The PC just broke and has never worked right since, both are running on windows 7 64 bit editions. I thought I could trust AVG because the make a decent anti Virus but this is just pure damn terrible.

    Summary

Don't waste your money, delete some files yourself and look for other ways to speed up your computer, don't buy this useless product.
