"Bait and switch with no customer support"

    March 2, 2014  |   By MrNeutron777

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

Purchase from this company if like to be the victim of bait and switch scams and enjoy getting the the runaround when you try to get customer service.

    Cons

E-mail advertising is a bait and switch scam.

    Impossible to contact customer support.

    Summary

I have used AVG anti-virus for several years without incident. Yesterday I got an e-mail from AVG advertising PC Tuneup for $23.32. A link in the e-mail took me to the site where the price was $26.65.

I tried to resolve the issue by:
    1) submitting a question online to "Julia" - no results
    2) online chat - no operators available
    3) calling the support number - recording directs me to the website
    4) replying to the e-mail - e-mail failed

"BAD! BAD! BAD! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!"

    January 9, 2014  |   By HoneyKira

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

    Absolutely none!

    Cons

This useless piece of crap has worsened my computer's performance which operates slower than ever before! When I'm on the internet, I have to wait L-O-N-G-E-R for pages to load and then I have to wait even more for the hourglass icon next to my cursor to disappear so that I can start to use it! I'm constantly clicking at things with my cursor and nothing happens! What a waste of my time!

    Summary

I purchased this program along with the AVG Anti-Virus software and both products are a BIG waste of money! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ANY AVG PRODUCTS!!! And AVG's support is non-existent!

    "Do NOT use!"

    January 5, 2014  |   By trx_trier

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

None that I can suggest! If I could give zero stars I would!

    Cons

Wrecked my laptop - looped re-boot. Complete re-install by PC Repair company required!

    Summary

Like the other bad reviews above (which I didn't see until after the event!), this piece of rubbish wrecked my machine. I installed it, and like others, on re-boot it stalled on the scan. I eventually got re-booted by really quickly clicking the F-key (a very very brief flash of a message comes up at the start telling you that you can skip the scan by clicking the F-key, F1 I think!).
I then tried to uninstall the program....and it wouldn't!! I eventually got onto AVG Helpline/online chat, who tried to help. They wanted to remotely access my laptop (which I wouldn't allow - I don't trust someone wanting to do this unless I know them well!!). They then sent me a like to a Removal Tool, which initially also wouldn't work. Then for no reason it did start to work and went for an auto re-boot.....disaster!! My laptop went into a constant re-boot cycle and would not start - I kept getting the 'new' windows 8 blue screen saying that there was a problem and would have to re-boot....and it did, again, and again.....infinite loop....boot, blue screen, re-boot.
Luckily I have an iPad and got back onto AVG support online. They had no idea how to help - they kept on about Safe Mode, which is not as simple as pressing F7 anymore. They wouldn't listen when I said that the boot never got as far as a sign in for safe mode under the new Windows 8. They kept sending suggestions that were simply 'cut&paste' from some internet search they had done.
I was eventually told that they would have to pass it on to their Research Team who would email me....no other solution was given, and they basically cut off the online support chat (I kept a copy of it!). I was left without a laptop for my work! I emailed AVG right after this to complain and they were of no help when they eventually replied to the email, blaming Windows 8 - when it was their Removal Tool that had done the damage. I ended up having to get my PC Repair store to re-install everything on my laptop. Luckily they could retrieve most of my data.
I emailed AVG again to say that they would have to pay for the repair and also demanded some sort of compensation for loss of work.
I have heard nothing from them.
I would have been a great promoter of AVG, and I am also a paying customer, having AVG full Internet Security....however, not any more! I will not be paying ever again for an AVG product, nor will I be recommending it to anyone. It is such a pity that a once great company like AVG can let their name be attached to such a program, and then basically ignore a customer!!

    "Used it with no problem"

    October 7, 2013  |   By RyMarinoff

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

Appears to clean up a slow running system, makes it work okay.

    Cons

Interferes with some program operations due to it's Live Optimization functionality.

    Summary

As far as I can see so far, I have used this software on multiple computers. Every computer I have used it on so far has appeared to work more correctly after a full optimization (including registry cleaning, hard-drive cleaning and de-fragmentation). I have some concerns about the potential of this software being used as a spy-ware type software, but nothing but paranoia to back it up. Also, certain aspects of live optimization may act weird depending on the combination of advanced settings. Overall, though, my experience is more positive than negative.

    "Beware!!!!"

    October 4, 2013  |   By 733LEE

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

    lol there are none,

    Cons

fked my computer, like no lube and sht, still walking on crutch's

    Summary

Stay away from this piece of crap, It will ruin your machine, I cant believe they have allowed this 3rd party program to have any association with AVG, they have lost the trust I have placed with them over the last 4 years. After trying the 30 day free trial for one day, my mind is made up. I will not pass over any money to AVG when they pass off criminal programs like this. The least they could do is update there maleware list to include Avg Pc Tuneup. That way when the next unexpected victim/customer is unlucky enough to have this program get on there machine it will be removed and placed straight in the vault.

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

    Cant find any

    Cons

Do not let this product on to your machine. I thought it was slow but it is now 3 minutes slower to boot up than before. Engineer has been unable to get my machine as fast as it was before I bought this rubbish. AVG will accept no responsibility and will not refund my money so that I can get a proper engineer to sort it

    Summary

    Rubbish

"I just got a customer call with the same problem"

    September 16, 2013  |   By sonoma95446

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp

    Pros

While AVG is pretty non-toxic as an antivirus, PC Tune-Up is a disaster for many people. It's registry check is flawed and if not updated properly by the company to concur with MS service packs can really hose an installation. I recommend using CCleaner for registry cleanups and backup reg when it asks. And always check to make sure you have the latest version of CCleaner and best of all, "It's Free".

    Cons

    Read the above

    Summary

    DO NOT USE PC-TUNEUP
