    "Indeed a virus in disguise"

    October 9, 2014  |

Version: AVG PC TuneUp 2015 15.0.1001.105

    Pros

    You're kidding, right?

    Cons

It caused my laptop to crash every time I tried to start it. Deleted all restore points and interfered with other legitimate programs. After many tries to start my machine, I had to boot it in safe mode and DELETE this virus called AVG. STAY AWAY FROM IT AT ALL COST!

"Worst Program in the World? Could be."

    July 12, 2014  |   By PandaMan06

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp 2015

    Pros

    What pros?

    Cons

Everything. Thanks to AVG PC TuneUp (2014), I am out +$250 for a software service warranty and external DVD drive for my Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 gaming laptop.

It is now rendered useless and unbootable. Currently I'm waiting on a OneKey Recovery CD so I can attempt to save my data, roll back to Windows 8 (cause 8.1 messes up the Metro Apps), and restore my machine back to its glory days.

I can't pin-point the particular issue that AVG did to my machine. It could be a change to the boot process, the edit/removal of a registry value, or a hung process during the "scan and clean" step during the boot. Or even something else.

    Summary

ALWAYS backup your computer. If you only have a flash drive, then back up what's most precious to you (you can always download and reinstall programs).

DO NOT TRUST OR USE THIS PROGRAM. There are several programs out there that are free and proven to work WITH your machine, not AGAINST it. Brands like ioBit, Piriform, Auslogics, and many more provide great results. AVG's only specialty is anti-virus, not for PC maintenance outside their own realm.

Apparently this is a recurring thing since 2011, meaning that they've done NOTHING to improve their cleaning/tweaking process. They can either research and actually learn to fix issues, or they can discontinue to program (which I recommend they should do).

Lenovo Users: If you're trying to recover and save your data, you'll need a OneKey Recovery CD and an external hard drive. Talk to Lenovo in acquiring one.

I would NOT recommend this program to even exist in our cyberworld. Save yourself the headache, frustration, loss of data, and even money.

"Worst Program I have ever experienced"

    July 9, 2014  |   By MK_47

Version: AVG PC TuneUp 2015 14.0.1001.489

    Pros

    Absolutely nothing.

    Cons

Disk doctor get stuck at 29%, thereafter cannot get into Windows.
After finally managing to get back into Windows, could not uninstall PC tuneup, as the uninstall program would not respond.
Majority of files on C drive became corrupted.
Restarted once more, after which pc would not even boot into Windows, as it got stuck in a loop, saying: "Windows ran into a problem, needs to restart."
After a couple of restarts, it then says there is a problem with the boot file and Windows needs to be reinstalled.
After reinstalling from a system image, all of my data on my C drive had been lost.
This product did absolutely nothing but destroy my Windows OS and cause a massive loss of data.

    Summary

Firstly, on Windows 8, the disk doctor tool, after restarting, got stuck on 29% (at the Windows boot logo), saying Checking and Repairing Drive: 29% (or thereabouts). This persisted for hours without changing. I searched the problem on my phone and found that this is an extremely common occurrence, according to Windows 8 users. After restarting again, the process restarted. Eventually I restarted and it gave me the option to skip the check. Getting into Windows, I immediately went to uninstall the product. Clicking "Yes" on the AVG "Are you sure you want to uninstall", would come to no avail and the product would not reinstall. On top of this, I could not open any files, particularly could not open the AVG PC tuneup itself.
After yet another restart, Windows would not even boot, it would get stuck in a "Windows ran into a problem, need to restart" loop, in which it would repeatedly restart. After a number of restarts, a new error (worse than the previous) would appear saying that the boot file is corrupted and Windows needs to be reinstalled.
Thereafter, I reinstalled Windows from a factory image, which finally managed to fix the problem, however, all of my previous data, applications etc. on my Windows were removed.
AVG PC Tuneup 2014, a product meant to clean up and improve performance, did absolutely nothing but destroy my operating system to the extent that it would not even consider booting up. As a computer science student, I have never come across such an excuse for a product. I have been a loyal user of AVG Anti-Virus for many years, and this fooled me into a false sense of security in all of their products, which is a mistake I will never make again.
AVG has made a massive mistake with this product, and I cannot even fathom how they, claiming to be a professional company, can make such a disaster of a product.
It is safe to say that I will never be using an AVG product ever again.

    "Free tuneup is deceptive"

    July 2, 2014  |   By gmswenson

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp 2015

    Pros

Seems to speed up PC until free trial is over after 24 hrs, then it's worse

    Cons

AVG advertised that you could run the program once a year for free, they did not say that the program would attempt to return your PC to the same level previous to your trial - it actually made my PC perform far worse after the 24 hour trial was over - it took me several days to even get internet access back. I emailed their support (from my phone)- they suggested I run the program to restore files, but in order to do that I had to buy it! No thanks, I am now getting rid of all the AVG software on my computer.

    Summary

    Don't try the free tuneup!!!!

"Trial version leaves you worse off if you don't buy."

    May 13, 2014  |   By gmswenson

Version: AVG PC TuneUp 2015 14.0.1001.423

    Pros

Seems to work in trial mode until it expires.

    Cons

The ads for AVG's PC TuneUp said that you could try it out for free up to once a year, inferring that it would do the complete job and then not continue to run, so I tried it figuring I could buy it further down the line if I liked it. It seemed to do the job, my computer ran faster, however when the 24 hr trial period ran out it restored some settings it had changed with disastrous results. I could no longer get on the Internet, and since then my computer is always asking me to close programs due to a lack of available memory. I emailed their support (on my phone) and they sent me the solution - to run the program and change some settings. Only problem was I would have to buy it to do this, similar to a virus that forces you to pay a fee to correct it.

    Summary

I will NOT buy anything from this company again - am now looking for some other decent tuneup program, as well as a replacement anti-virus program.

    "Learn to use"

    May 1, 2014  |   By SammerJammers

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp 2015

    Pros

It has saved my computer for many years aslong as it is not doing something it does not slow computer down when you are in the middle of a task don't try to do fifty other things its common since it takes high cpu because it is fixing your computer I have been using since 2011 on all my computers it does wonders on my oldies like my dell 2400 it runs as fast as it possibly could when befor I was having problems even opening a folder and pc freezing after I ran avg pc tune up it runs so much better I no longer want to throw it across the room. now for my 6gb ram 1 tb hard drive dell it helps aswell I don't have slow issues with it anyways but it fixes a lot of the problems I have had with it over the last couple years. I have never had problems opening the interface or running any tasks as I have seen in comments except for my dinosaur of a computer some times it takes longer to clean up the recovery tool (rescue center)is awesome I have saved my computer many of times I recommend.

    Cons

old computers may take longer to run yet its probably the computer not avg

"Slows the computer more than it speeds it up"

    April 29, 2014  |   By rodrupp

    Version: AVG PC TuneUp 2015

    Pros

Helps manage background processes and startup programs well. Decent user interface.

    Cons

Consumes a HUGE amount of memory. CPU usage was constantly over 50% while it was on. Takes some 5+ minutes just to open the user interface. Many of the features take even longer to load. Computer completely freezes until it finishes loading.
Every bit of speed you get from cleaning up your system is used up 10x by the TuneUp itself.

    Summary

Do NOT use. Slows computer down completely.
