    Cons

Would like to see some diffrent skins for it.

"Almost too good to be free!"

    February 25, 2006  |   By Classic 1957

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2015 7.1.375

    Pros

All antivirus software you pay bucks for should work as well as this. The user interface is easy to use and understand. When scans are scheduled, you hardly notice they are running, unlike other RAM intensive AV programs. Great software all the way around!

    Cons

Works so well free that you hate to fork over the dough for the upgrade but it's worth it.

    "Missed major Trojan Horse"

    February 25, 2006  |   By dr.rd

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2015 7.1.375

    Pros

Used the program for over a year with no problems.

    FREE!!

    Easy to use

    Cons

Could not find or remove Trojan Horse that filled hard drive with garbage. Norton picked it up with 3 others and removed. Sometimes you just get what you pay for.

    "great program!"

    February 25, 2006  |   By martinw1200

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2015 7.1.375

    Pros

This program takes you back, five years or so, when antivirus programs just did their antivirus thing and stayed out of your way. Now we get all these ridiculous gimmicks intended to justify high price tags.

AVG is free and takes care of the antivirus routine without making itself obnoxious. It's got very regular updates to its virus definitions.

I'm not sure how they do this for free. I hope a lot of people are buying their other software!

"Perfect if you don't want to WASTE your hard earnd $ on bs progs like norton"

    February 24, 2006  |   By mcki0154

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2015 7.1.375

    Pros

no annual subscription fees, no junkmail, no cost,

    Why waste 50-80$ on a norton/kasperky/panda/mcaffe anti-virus that expires in a year??????

I bought norton, and b/c of my numerous sys crashes I could no longer use my PURCHASED prog b/c of TOO many intallations!!!!! Complete and total BS!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    Cons

can't schedule autoscanns, doesn't catch malicious appelets (kasperky does, but $$$), not good for SUPER high risk sites (seriall.com for example, installs automatic malicious trojan applelet!!!)

"It is an AWESOME FREE virus program!"

    February 24, 2006  |   By Headspin

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2015 7.1.375

    Pros

It takes up far less memory than Norton, or other virus software, and works far better. If you do not want to spend any money on your virus software, this is the road to take.

    Cons

It is ONLY virus software. It scans, and oversees your computer. There is not a lot to it. But, hey, IT'S FREE!

"It's not bad, but not great."

    February 24, 2006  |   By Tomcatjjr

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2015 7.1.375

    Pros

It found or stopped some viruses. I don't want to be too hard on AVG as it was my somewhat faithful companion for awhile, however read the cons:

    Cons

It is slow on the draw. It would tell me after the virus was done installing on my computer, that a virus was found. Gee, thanx for the heads up. Too little too late. Not a good real time program. Just get AVAST anti-virus and never worry again. The best real time protection on the Planet. Trust me. AVAST even pops up sometimes if you goto a really bad website that has malicious intentions so you can exit before damage is done! Now that is real-time protection. Get AVAST now. You won't be disappointed!!!

    "DO NOT TRUST THIS AV!"

    February 24, 2006  |   By olehoholm

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2015 7.1.375

    Pros

    - A free version availible

    Cons

Check out av-comparatives.org for test and you'll see AVG is the poorest.

I got a virus that made my PC a spam relay and AVG didn't detect it. Even after full update and on-demand scan. After uninstalling it and installing one of the best programs listed on AV-comparatives, the virus was detect instantly by the real-time protection.

Find an other AV than AVG from Grisoft, that's my advise!

    "Great anti-virus and it's FREE!"

    February 23, 2006  |   By i-Firefox

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2015 7.1.375

    Pros

    1) Computer's with low RAM, like say, only 256 MB or below, should use AVG. It hardly slows down pc startup unlike Norton or other commercial anti-viruses.

    2) For those who have heard that Avast! is better, well maybe but I find Avast!'s full system scans to be terribly slow. It took me more than an hour to complete a full scan with Avast! On the other hand, AVG only took about 25 minutes and it doesn't use too much RAM during these scans too so I can do something else like web browsing without being slowed down.

    3) There's no technical support for this free edition but at least there's a forum. Better than Norton which doesn't even have a forum, right?

    4) Has about all the features you'll need in an anti-virus.

    5) Super fast updating. Updates are frequent too.

    6) Efficient automatic updating (I have Norton on another PC and it's slow to automatically update- if there's any).

    7) Here's a nice one, AVG has a feature called Rescue Disk Wizard. The Rescue Disk lets you scan and clean files on your pc while in MS-DOS mode (at the command prompt). It's useful if your system area has been infected.

    8) It's free.

    Cons

    1) For IM users, AVG doesn't have any IM protection, hopefully there will be in the future.

    2) AVG doesn't have a firewall together with it like Norton or PC-Cillin but it's free, remember? And if you want Norton or PC-Cillin, you'll have to dig into your wallet. So, you choose yourself. Sides, there's quite a few free firewalls out there. In fact, there's lots of free software that provides features commercial software charge you for.
