    "deceptive download presentation"

    July 1, 2013  |   By rohatyner

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2742

    Pros

    Prevents insertion of SOME viruses

    Cons

Caution, as the AVG folks make it easy to download the PAID trial version without realizing it, and then pester daily to actually pay for it. There seem to be better programs, as well.

    Summary

    Nuisance!

"2013 does not work with Win 7 64 and Outlook 10"

    November 9, 2012  |   By Zorion3

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2742

    Pros

One - Quick access to telephone support.

    Cons

New interface is just as clunky and unintuitive as Windows 8.
Program stripped all text out of incoming e-mails.
Program rendered hyperlinks in e-mails unusable.
No program settings to correct the above.
    Some interface buttons were unresponsive.
Telephone support was not able to help and e-mailed me a program remover.
Removing program did not remove e-mail damage.
Was finally able to fix with Microsoft Fix-It after wasting several hours on this.

    Summary

Have used AVG for several years on multiple computers at home without any problems. Decided to apply at work. Wrong!!! Needed our IT guys to help me clean up the mess.

"AVG has banned disapproving feedback from their forum"

    November 9, 2012  |   By Vanillaman

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2742

    Pros

I have used AVG Free for years and it has been fine. However, arrogance has sent it plummeting.

    Cons

I downloaded AVG 2013 Free for my new Windows 7 64bit. I scanned for viruses and it found an infected file. When I proceeeded to remove it, I was shocked to find that the "removal options" were inactive, defeating the whole purpose of an AntiVirus program. When I contacted AVG, they were in denial and kept removing my forum post. Then, they responded with a message saying that my post was "removed as inappropriate".

    Summary

AVG 2013 Free edition DOES NOT PROVIDE A FUNCTION FOR REMOVAL OF INFECTIONS, and are in denail. Any complaints to their forum are removed as "inappropriate".

"Sad failure of a good program"

    November 7, 2012  |   By TheMinitor

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2742

    Pros

    Easy to install
    Nice interface

    Cons

Database is not up to date
    Misses exposures
    Support is chargable

    Summary

I have been a paying customer for 8 years and trusted AVG to protect my machine and they had done that until recently. I was having trouble with URL re-directs. AVG could not find and remove it. I contacted AVG and they offered to remove it for $200. I had no choice but to pay the money. They remotely removed the offending virus by using other companies free virus removal tools. I was offended by this and asked the tech why AVG did not do this in the first place?

He offered no explanation just asked if my machine was now virus free. I can't see why I pay a yearly fee to protect my machine and then pay more money to have free use software actually do the heavy lifting. AVG has lost my trust. I will not renew my software again. Its time for a new vendor.

"It may be a great free antivirus for others, not me"

    November 6, 2012  |   By Irelands child

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2742

    Pros

I does seem to do what it is intended to do

    Cons

but the fact that every window, every email, yep, virtually everything you do, it has something that has AVG plastered on it. Do I need to say it slows things down!! Of course if I upgraded to Windows 7 from XP things might be better, but the next OS will be a LINUX program, probably UBUNTU

    Summary

It lasted two days - the got dumped and now, back with my long time free favorite, AVAST

    "different than it was"

    November 5, 2012  |   By roadbase

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2742

    Pros

    A little faster.

    Cons

New screens are uninformative, new art is ugly, no longer lists what version is installed. Options drop down menu is to busy, hard to use, uninformative toc's Computer hangs on a regular basis.

    Summary

When c-net sez a new version is available i go and check version numbers. Apparently AVG is no longer providing the version installed.

"Great IF YOU ARE RUNNING 64BIT WINDOWS else use AVAST"

    November 1, 2012  |   By liadov

Version: AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 2013.0.2742

    Pros

Excellent as always BUT see the Cons

    Cons

Causes 32bit Windows OS to hang at start up.
A temp fix is to disable the AVGIDSAgent in Services. This can only be done in Safe Mode. I have found this fix can be reset to fail by subsequent AVG updates.

    Summary

I have always been an advocate of AVG but I have now to advise all 32bit OS users to consider alternatives - and my preference is AVAST. Especially as AVG seem at present to be in denial of there being any fault. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

    Updated on Nov 2, 2012

I have several clients with AVG 2013 and the 32bit OS problem that causes Windows to sometimes hang. It is an intermittent issue. Further experimentation shows that by setting AVGIDSAgent to "Delayed Start" in Services largely solves the problem (all tests thus far seem to support this). You will then see AVG states that "You are not protected" but that changes after 1-2 minutes when the AVGIDSAgent starts. So you 32 bit OS users can continue to enjoy AVG!
