"AVG HAS SHOT ITSELF IN THE FOOT!!!"
Version: AVG AntiVirus 2013 2013.0.3267
Pros
Used to work well, in the background, successfully protecting my computer.
Cons
Then after using the product for over 6 years without a problem, AVG suddenly decided that I needed "privileges" to re-install the software on my own (single-user) laptop. The tech rep says that "some other program" is blocking the installation... What program? He don't know... and I haven't installed anything new!!
Summary
Good-Bye AVG!! Actually surprised it lasted as long as it did before they screwed it up!

"AVG Technical Support Fail"
Version: AVG AntiVirus 2013 2013.0.2899
Pros
I have used AVG for 3 or more years without my computer getting an infection. I preferred AVG for its small footprint and fast processing.
Cons
Something changed recently and AVG has brought my email client (Thunderbird) to a crawl. It takes me 5-7 seconds to delete a single email. If I disable AVG Computer protection Thunderbird works perfectly. I went to AVG support and they gave every appearance of being helpful. They gave me a case number and a utility to send them configuration information. When I did not hear back I called them. I had to go through the same charade of them appearing to diagnose the problem (which you can find documented by others on the internet) and then transferred me to TechBuddy - a pay for use service. So their customer support consists of referring you out and likely getting a referral fee.
Summary
Do not think that the paid version of AVG means you will get technical support for their product.

"How this is so highly rated is beyond me"
Version: AVG AntiVirus 2013 2013.0.2899
Pros
NOTHING!!!
Cons
Software and SUPPORT totally sucks!
Summary
I have had AVG Internet Security on one of my desktop computers for 2 years--no problems. When my McAfee subscription ran out on 2 other computers I removed it and downloaded AVG Antivirus 13. After downloading, updating and running a scan, one of the computers did a reboot, never to boot to windows again (yet--apparenty I will have to do a system restore) The other computer slowed to a crawl and (probably fortunately) kept locking up, never actually completing a scan. I was able to remove the AVG and HOPE it didn't jack anything up too badly. The icing on the cake is that upon calling tech support for help they passed me up the line for 2 hours and basically offered no help at all except that they could remote in to my still functioning computer and troubleshoot (for a "nominal" fee--since when is $120 "nominal"?)

"complete crap"
Version: AVG AntiVirus 2013 2013.0.2899
Pros
No pros of any sort with their latest offerings, wish I or they could return to the old format.
Cons
Antivirus can't update (update failed, general error), PC tuneup screwed up my computer, help function is a ridiculous joke.
Every time I access their site, they want to sell me something new.
Apparently now they're trying to sell tech support, unbelievable, check out their site...
How about they just repair what I've already paid them for?????????????????????????????????????????Summary
I've been using the PAID version (rev's 9 and 10) of AVG for 3 years now. After paying for another year, then upgrading to AVG 2013 (per their prompt), and worse yet, also purchasing their PC tuneup/1 click maintenance package, my computer has started freezing constantly, and now I can't update the antivirus program. It looks to me like AVG 2013 is to rev 10 as Windows Vista is to XP, ie. a complete and utter failure, probably because a bunch of 6 figure salaried "sales engineers" decided to add a bunch of cutesy bells and whistles, rather than maintaining solid fundamental functions.
The worst part is their help function, which is based on "live chat", or a phone call (on a prepaid cell phone, just great). At least Microsoft had brains enough to support an email based help function dialogue, it works beautifully and has gotten me out of trouble twice with Vista problems, without trying to deal with somebody in India whose command of the English language just ain't working.
Does anybody know of a reliable antivirus program that supports email based tech support? I'll happily pay for the service, I'm just tired of shysters telling me that the rust bucket Chevy with a cheap paint job they're trying to sell me is really a gold plated Mclaren. -
"2013 is BOGUS"
Version: AVG AntiVirus 2013 2013.0.2899
Pros
NONE, okay, they have pretty font.
Cons
The list is too long. BUT mostly it SLOWS all functioning down, all operations on the computer, and really slows down when on the internet. They claim they have a fix, but it doesn't work. They do have a money back guarantee, but only before 30 days. And of course, they offer me to upgrade to 2013 in the middle of my contract, now I cannot get any prorated portion refunded. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS YOU WILL BE SORRY. I used and loved AVG for over 7 years and 2013 is nothing like its predecessors.
Summary
Don't do it...unless you're a gluten.

"I hate avg 2013 it is crap"
Version: AVG AntiVirus 2013 2013.0.2899
Pros
there are none
Cons
It looks like windows 8, it is good green a real problem for those of us who are color blind. AVG 2012 had more options and was easier to use. AVG 2013 took out about 70% of the functionality that previous versions had in it. I recon I will need to find a new virus company to deal with
Summary
If you like windows 8 you might like this but they sure took a lot of the functionality of it out, and I hate it. I been using avg now for 6 years, ever since I got a virus that Norton could not fix, and got tired of the bloat ware that Norton became.

"It does its job quietly and thoroughly."
Version: AVG AntiVirus 2013 2013.0.2897
Pros
It works. I've had no virus problems for as long as I've had it on my computer. I'm using the free version. AVG does not constantly try to sell me an upgrade. AVG makes it clear that more protection is available at a price, but it does not overdo it.
Cons
I have nothing negative to report.
Summary
I'm glad I have AVG AntiVirus on my computer.
