"Wouldn't update - after hour-long download!"

Scans without slowing my computer down much; free; can be configured to scan email, etc.

Very frustrating update process; prompts users to do an hour-long download, then refuses to install it.
Summary
After getting me to do an hour-long download to update the program, it gave me a scary-looking error message saying it wouldn't update version 7.5 because it was no longer supported. If 7.5 is no longer supported, 7.28 certainly isn't! I had already downloaded the virus definitions elsewhere and installed them; this appeared to work at the time, but I get a persistent message that my definitions are out of date. (The next scheduled definitions update is tomorrow.) So I don't know whether the definitions were installed either; don't know whether I have any definitions newer than 2006 (!), and don't know whether it's safe to uninstall my Norton. I am going to look into Avast, and if it's better, uninstall this badly designed program.
