    "Major problem with 2012 edition"

    April 9, 2012  |   By dizzyqueen

It used to be an excellent unobtrusive anti-virus program. I've used AVG for several years with no major problems until AVG 2012.

Running latest free version on Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. The scheduled scans do not run at the time programmed. Instead, they automatically start during my busiest computer time in the afternoon and cannot be shut down, even with Windows Task Manager and Sysinternals Process Explorer. It also won't allow me to lower the priority of the scan. It hogs all of my system resources while it's scanning (for over an hour), crashing my system sometimes. I've tried several fixes suggested by AVG and various tech support sites on the web - to no avail. I'm going to switch to Avast and find out why most people prefer that program.

    Used to be good.
    Sucks now.

Mar-2013 UPDATE: I also tried AVG 2013 when it came out, with the same problems listed above.

PROS: This made me try Avast Free, and I am VERY happy with that program. Runs light, fast, and reliably.

    Hello dizzyqueen,

Could you please discuss this situation with us at CNET AVG Forum or AVG Forums? As we need more information for analysis about the issue with scheduled scans.

    Thank you

The scheduled scans work just fine, there is nothing at all wrong with the scheduled scans, and you can lower the priority of the scan. AVG does not hog your system, and I have never had my computer crash because of AVG.

This review is not true at all, and Avast you must be kidding!!!
