"but needs a way to completely disable"
Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 10.0.1191
Pros
easy to install
Cons
not so easy to use, with a streamlined but still somewhat convoluted interface. Biggest problem is that while it told me to uninstall avast! anti-virus due to conflicts, itself cannot be disabled. These days, you need two or more programs.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 10.0.1191
Pros
Install was simple
Has a search toolbar that catergorizes safety of the search results by color codes.Cons
Pop-ups to buy upgrade edition
Summary
I used Panda Cloud for the last 3 yrs and though it worked well, it did not provide interactive individual features like the safe search feature and other modules lthat is available on AVG. AVG is much better so far. Need to figure out how to keep the pop-ups from AVG for upgrading to the AVG pay addition,.

"Oh AVG... What happened to thee?"
Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 10.0.1191
Pros
The colors and theme remind me a time long ago when AVG was almost too good to be true. The amazing free app that discovered where every bit of evil was hiding in our 4TB media server. Sadly, those days of our love AVG are long gone.
Cons
I dare you to try and uninstall it
The modules have on/off buttons that do nothing
Virus vault hinders progress
Slows your machine
It 'phones home' constantly
instant di It will enslave your machine. The module on/off buttons are useless-- AVGSummary
I'm a pro-troubleshooter, and even I could not get AVG off of my **#*%
Just try to uninstall it from your computer. then you'll see why it's been called ".... much more difficult to remove than any virus".
If you try to remove AVG
It will kick & scream, it won't let Revo remove it.
- It's a pest, pops up for no reason asking permissions to go online. Click 'no' and it sneaks in anyway. Want proof? Check it with What's Running'
Two months later I'm still finding chunks of it all over my registry. Honest to God, I have NEVER seen any program that roots itself to the very bones of your computer.
