    "Formerly "Ewido 4.0""

    November 30, 2006  |   By UM Canes

I purchased this product when it was "Ewido" and liked it very much. Depended on it for active protection and all. Supposedly after reading reviews on other forumns the newer app., AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 is better. (supposedly) I was advised that my "Ewido" license would transfer. (it did). everything O.K. so far right? Wrong! After the merger or buy out by "Grissoft" the signature database increased to more than 500,000 signatures. To big for an anti spy app. Ran a scan and it found C:/System_Volume_restorexxxxxx as a high risk. Now I know nasties can hide there but this one was my IE saved screen names and passwords. I didn't realize it at first so I let the app. delete the supposed trojan. WRONG!!!

False positive raised hell with my IE. Grown to big for an anti-spy app and can no longer be trusted period. Very disapointed with what "Grissoft" has done to my favorite anti-spy app. I can no longer in good concience recomend this app. Took me 45 min. to repair my IE. Confirmed the false pos. by running my other apps whis=ch found nothing!

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I bought this app when it was ewido and loved it, ran it active and all but once I updated to AVG I had issues too. At least you have a Dell. Dell provides the disks to reformat or reinstall your drivers. I have a 6 month old Dell too and have tested too much software, good and bad. One thing though, I've had DElls for three years and they have tought me "How To", almost everything needed for a PC. I kept my dim 4600 and use it only for testing. Never again on my new PC.

I used to use the free version of Ewido and was amazed at how much more it found than my other programs. However, the old version would not update and that is when I discovered that they had sold out to AVG. I downloaded the free trial and ran it. Of course, it discovered several errors which I let it delete and I retired for the evening leaving my computer on as I normally do. When I checked my computer the next morning, it had shut down windows and re-booted in Dos which told me that my computer had experienced a serious error. When I re-booted, I was told to download Dell Driver tool to repair the damage. MY computer is only 6 months old and one of the higher end computers that Dell has to offer. I will not use the AVG software again for fear of deleting something that is needed on my computer.

considering they're primarily a enterprise vendor, messing with ewido backfired on them! i'd go as far as to urge folks not to bother downloading it.

I gave up trying to fix IE 6 and went ahead and installed IE7. Glad I have 2GB ram because IE7 is ok with a powerfull
