"A pretty good instant messanger..."
Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) XP/2K 1.0.4
Pros
This software meets all your basic needs for IMing and such and if you are obsessed with spamming up chatrooms this is one software to do it on lol...Though I no longer, use it, if I IMed, I would...
Cons
The freakin adds. I was up one night at nearly 3 aclock in the morning and both my parents were asleep. I was grounded, thus I was up so late. All of a sudden this add from AIM blared out on my laptop speakers.... I was like, ***???

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) XP/2K 1.0.4
Pros
I like old AIM. Now this cannot use old AIM. WHY?
Cons
I do not like AIM request with AOL Explorer. I choose default on IE. I use outlook mail, I click to open. I saw it is on AOL Explorer. my default is IE but AOL can break IE. I do not like.

"It's the worst AIM ever"
Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) XP/2K 1.0.4
Pros
You can still communicate over the internet, if that's is good enough.
Cons
1. Pop up ads (2-3 ads. more than normal)
2. You have to shut it down twice for it to go away.
3. It comes with AOL bundles like American Online and it takes over a default startup homepage, but this can be disable in options.
4. The interface GUI looks cheap and poor.
I uninstalled after a week on my computer, I don't want to go through all of these ads just to communicate over internet. I"ll be waiting for the next version...until then I'll use my MSN and Yahoo..

"Not Great"

Pros
It does look better than older versions of AIM
Cons
AIM installs so much other software with it. Definately go with Trillian instead.

"The new AIM sucks booty. It installs a buttload of extra, needless stuff. Booo"
Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) XP/2K 1.0.4
Pros
You can talk to other people.
Cons
Extra programs, AOL services, iTunes, etc. It is not just an IM anymore... now it's adware central.

"Contains spyware, use something else."
Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) XP/2K 1.0.4
Pros
I don't see anything good about this program except for the new interface.
Cons
You have to buy your backgrounds now, the only thing you can do is use a highlighter. You can't get rid of the emoticons, I have tried. Weather Bug is installed on your system even though you don't know it, the same with the AOL toolbar, as well as some other programs.

"Not as stable as the last version"
Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) XP/2K 1.0.4
Pros
AIM has several more members then other services such as MSN and Yahoo.
Cons
This new version is a lot slower then the last and often freezes. It installs spyware onto the computer.
When the mouse pointer is put on top of a screename it no longer shows you information such as how long they have been logged in and what their away message is. I would not recommend this version of AIM. If you need to use AIM download an older more stable version.

"AIM 1.0.4. is the worst yet! AOL Messed up on this version!"
Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) XP/2K 1.0.4
Cons
The Public chatrooms are disabled for this version of aim. Custom buddy icons are no longer allowed. Custom skins are no longer allowed. Infact, if you chose to use the provided icons or skins from AOL, they will make you pay for them! AOL has further pushed AIM into being a subscription based service.

"It Works, But the Devil's In the Details"
Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) XP/2K 1.0.4
Pros
The only pro for this program is the fact that it does as advertised. But read on, because as the saying goes, the devil's in the details.
Cons
AOL is well known for installing programs you do not want or need on your PC, and AIM goes a little further than that. For one thing, the installer automatically installs the AOL browser, leaving you no option otherwise. This browser is bloatware, and one must dig in their program files to uninstall it. Also AIM installs the Viewpoint Media Player, a program I consider spyware seemingly because in some cases (thankfully not my own), this little program goes out of its way to make sure it stays on your hard drive. The video and voice chat feature is functional, but don't expect any kind of quality as it seems to change frequently in clarity. If you must use AIM, I urge you to download Trillian as a replacement for this. AIM is simply too bloated to be of any use to a smart user.
