    "Stopped working"

    February 19, 2006  |   By StLucifer

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3

    Cons

I had AIM installed on my computer. Thats until 1 month ago. I tried to log in but did not do anything. removed it, reinstalled new version in differnet location, Locked up. I guess it contains so much spyware and adware my blockers do not let it function on my computer. Sad cuz it was good in the past.

    "My instant messanging client"

    February 18, 2006  |   By clarydog

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3

    Pros

AIM is one of the most used instant messaging clients around, so its basicly a must for some people to communicate to talk to your friends and family. The UI is basic, and the ability to have a buddy icon is nice. Also, its free.

    Cons

AIM comes with spyware, and there is no tabbed windows when talking to people. Also, it has adware, so the ads takes up more memory than it needs to.

"Slow with too much perhiperhal software"

    February 7, 2006  |   By patlea12

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3

    Pros

    Zilch

    Cons

It's dead slow, takes up loads of RAM, and comes with a ton of extra software you neither want nor need (AOL Browser, get AOL free for X days...etc).

Miserable product, 1 out of 5 stars. Encourage your friends to switch to another messenger platform immediately.

"The preferred IM network for the USA"

    January 21, 2006  |   By CableguyTK

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3

    Pros

It connects to the #1 network in the USA (AIM), as well as having support for the ICQ network. So basically anyone you know at school or work probably uses it.

Supports video chat, audio chat, file sending, picture sharing, and games (if you are into gaming over IM).

Its better than the alternatives for the AIM network, that being Trillian, GAIM, Miranda, etc. as it supports some functions that the alternatives don't seem to either have or do properly (e.g. AIM Direct Connection)

    Cons

Comes with some "spyware". I put it in quotes because the spyware is pretty safe by comparison, but its worthwhile to note that the program AIM Ad Hack targets and removes all the junk that comes with AIM. That being: WildTangent, ViewPoint Manager, WeatherBug, AOL Toolbar for Internet Explorer and AOL Explorer. AOL Toolbar and AOL Explorer are free and and safe software from AOL, however someone who isn't asking for them don't need them.

Advertisements are plastered all over the program, which is where AIM Ad Hack comes in :).

A little taxing on the RAM.

AIM Video Chat crashes my computer...even after I reinstalled Windows.

"It makes shortcuts to install AOL all over your computer. watch out."

    January 16, 2006  |   By Sammus

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3

    Pros

Its not loaded with useless crap (like MSN and yahoo, or the new AIM triton)

    Cons

It puts shortcuts to download AOL everywhere, it has ad's everywhere, and it will randomly download and play video ads.

"Absolute garbage!, typical hijacking aol software......"

    January 16, 2006  |   By danaman

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3

    Pros

The addidtion of the music player would be ok if it worked right......And i think webcams actually work in this version, without that mysterious RTC upgrade that never seemed to upgrade.

    Cons

ITS AOL,The new buddy list takes up 50% of your screen!, You have to download the new aol explorer in order to even have the aol messanger anymore!you cant get rid of the

aol explorer without getting rid of the messanger also!MORE ads popups crap, interface is very uninviting, other people with outdated messangers will have problems connecting via michrophone or video. Looks like a very cheap and horrid rip off of the yahoo messanger, wich by the way is 100x's better.

Oh and the music player worked good for me intill about 15 minutes after starting to listen to music it would start to cut out constantly "even with full bandwith" "road runner" its there crappy servers not being able to handle the load.so the only way to listen to music is to keep reseting it every 15 mins.

    "Use AIM add-ons."

    January 15, 2006  |   By panicintheutopia

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3

    Pros

    My Primary instant messaging client.

    Cons

Comes with a bit of Spyware, annoying icons placed all over your PC, and stupid ADs on the buddy list that clutter it and make it a pain in the butt to use. I use AIM with 2 add-ons: MIDDLE MAN, and AIM AD HACK. These two programs will get rid of all the Spyware, Icons, and ADs on your buddy list. Good luck.
