"Best organization tool for favorite bookmarks"

    April 17, 2013  |   By methadvocate

    Version: AM-DeadLink 4.6

    Pros

Easy to use, easy to understand. I've been using this programs for so many years, I think Its been since the very first version of the software. It's basic, but it has all the things I need to manage huge volumes of information. My "main" favorites file has over 4000 entries and this software enables me to keep all of those bookmarks up-to-date, and free of uneccessary "filler info". The software quickly checks every URL for status (if it's still a valid url, what type of error code the url send back-a 404 or 500, etc). This also have a preview panel built right in that can be turned on or off, to be able to see what website comes up when you're checking the sites that return error codes, or checking sites for any reason. There is so much this software does, and it's done in a very clean user interface. There's just too many perks to mention. Oh-of course it works for all major browsers, and you can export/import files very easily. Super program indeed.

    Cons

I'd like to have the option to view the bookmarks in a tree navigation. The way you would see the bookmarks laid out in the windows file manager, for example. And then a "toggle" switch to flip that view back and forth.

"My NOD32 Antivirus 5.2.9.1. recognise it like an attack"

    March 7, 2013  |   By Vgoto

    Version: AM-DeadLink 4.6

    Pros

I didn't use it because I can't save it on my computer. The description is in Cons. Thanks

    Cons

Please, can you review this software, because I wanted to use it to find my dead links from bookmarks, but my ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 5.2.9.1. the newest data base 8092, recognise it like "Win32/DownloadAdmin.A.Gen potentially unwanted application" . Can you ask the creator Martin Aignesberger what to do about it? Thanks in advance ;)

"Slow! Slow! Slow! A Snail on Quaaludes."

    January 20, 2013  |   By lvwolfman--2008

    Version: AM-DeadLink 4.6

    Pros

Reads bookmarks from a number of popular browsers as well as HTML files.
Allows you to check for and delete duplicates
Allows you to verify that the sites are still good

    Cons

Can't actually DO anything with the bookmarks in the HTML files.
So slow to delete duplicates from Chrome that I don't think it is really working
I haven't gotten to where I can check for bad links yet so can't comment on it.

    Summary

I'm used to Compass which does all of the above and FAST. I'm used to BookMacster on OS X which does all of the above and FAST. This is NOT fast.

I loaded Chrome with 27,000 bookmarks on an I5 machine running Windows 8 with 4GB of ram and a 100GB solid state hard drive. It took maybe 10 minutes for this program to find the duplicates. For the past two hours it has been "deleting" them. I'd think it wasn't working but it is chewing up 14% of the CPU and 100MB of ram. Windows task manager also says that it is not responding. Well I knew that. But the CPU and RAM usage vary so it does appear to be doing something. I just don't know what.

All I can say is that I'm glad that I don't have to pay for this software. I think that I'm going to cancel the task, uninstall the program and do the work on my Mac. It'll be a LOT faster.
