"Old Versions Good -- new is worse than a virus!"
Version: ALZip 8.51
Pros
Zips and unzips lot of formats and is easy to use.
Cons
It associates itself with *.jar files (Java archives) and opens them -- these are supposed to be opened as run by the Java virtual machine as executables. Thus, it breaks Java and all Java programs!!! Worse, changing its options doesn't work -- take jar of the list, then go back, and its still / back on it! It keeps doing this and keeps breaking Java. I uninstalled it after one use.
Another major problem is with the manufacturer -- they sell registrations, taking your money, but don't actually give the registration code -- thus, they steal from you, taking your money and not letting you register the software!Summary
This program ruins computers -- I seriously don't see it as any better than installing a virus, since, like a virus it ruins your computers operation. Don't install this program, keep it away from your computer. And whatever you do, don't pay money for it!!!!!
I give it half a star only because CNet wouldn't let me give it zero (or less). -
"Easy to use with no problems"
Version: ALZip 8.12
Pros
Nice layout, easy to use, good compression, fast extraction rates.
Cons
puts a bird name every time you make a new folder (for example instead of "New Folder" it says "Sea Gull". freaked me out for a day or so since I thought it was a virus.)
Summary
Wants you to register every time you open it up but its not that big of a con for me
-

Pros
Easy to use and provides good compression.
Cons
Always wants you to register if you're using the free version.
Summary
It's a great free compression program and the price makes it attractive enough to get rid of the purchasing splash screen.
