Editors' Review

+

ACDSee Pro 8 is a comprehensive tool that allows you to organize, edit, and publish your photos, all through one convenient and intuitive interface. Because it does offer so many options and features, this program is a good option for users with a wide variety of needs.

Pros

Lots of guidance: There are all kinds of resources that come with this program to help you access all the features and get everything out of it that you can. The first time you open the program, you'll be greeted by a brief but thorough walkthrough of the main app features. There are also a lot of supplementary materials to refer back to as you work in the program whenever you have questions.

All kinds of tools: No matter what type of project you're working on, you'll find the tools you need in this app. There are pixel-level editing tools, including Dodge and Burn options to selectively adjust lighting and color in specific areas of the image. You can also remove blemishes, apply filters and brush-on effects, and add text, borders, watermarks, vignettes, and other special effects. And when you're done, you can publish your finished pieces to PDF, PPT, and HTML.

Social engagement: One option, when you've added the final touches to your images, is to upload them to the ACDSee website. You can keep your photos private on here if you choose, but you can also share some with other users. And you can browse their photos and leave comments as well.

Cons

Freezing and crashing issues: We did encounter some issues with freezing and crashing while we were testing the app. In all cases, we could open the program and begin again, but this could get frustrating if it was a regular occurrence.

Bottom Line

ACDSee Pro 8 offers all kinds of options for managing and editing your photos. While you may never need all of the features included in this package, it's good to know you'll never want for anything. The app is free to try for 15 days, and the full purchase price is $199.99.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of ACDSee Pro 8.0.0.263.

"If you are a true professional dont waste your time"

July 14, 2014  |  By frankb3ll

 |  Version: ACDSee Pro 7 7.1.164.0

Pros

great for quickly viewing raw files, assuming you are not a professional shooter

Cons

This is a great program and i have been a loyal paid user for many years. It's lousy when a new Nikon pro camera comes out and you have to wait 3+ months for raw support to be added. It happened with the D3, D3S, D4 & now d4S. The camera came out march 2014 and i still cant view raw files. If you are a nikon pro shooter i recommend you choose a different program

Summary

They call the program pro, but it is far from professional, i have emailed digital river countless times, and they can give me no time frame, no info, and they say they are waiting for additional requests. It's been 3 or 4 emails, and 4 months, and nothing. Adobe adds new cameras to their raw plugin and Lightroom, within a week or less.

"Great workflow design."

April 10, 2014  |  By hobartquitman

 |  Version: ACDSee Pro 7 7.1.164.0

Pros

With ACDSee Pro 5 I can completely process a Digital Picture into a Publishing Quality Masterwork within minutes. ACDSee Pro 5 is much more intuitive than any other Photo Processing Software that I have tried

Cons

The "Sharpening" and "Shadow" adjustments are exceptional too.

Summary

Features like the "Light EQ" and now the "Color EQ" in ACDSee Pro 5, make enhancing Digital Photos so easy, intuitive, and fun.

"OK but better programs out there"

May 10, 2013  |  By Wings92126

 |  Version: ACDSee Pro 6 6.0.169

Pros

Quick workflow.
Many functions.
Much smaller file size than Lightroom 4.
Great to preview photos.

Cons

The little batch processing functions are a buggy nightmare.
No before/after functionality makes it easy to mess up badly.
Can't back out of many functions. If you mess up, too bad.

Summary

Not yet ready for prime time. I can't believe pros actually use this. If it were free, I'd probably keep it to preview pictures.

"Some faster on 64 bit system"

March 23, 2013  |  By anyport

 |  Version: ACDSee Pro 6 6.0.169

Pros

Speed has increased

Cons

None discovered so far

Summary

I haven't used this enough to find of there are any lurking bugs, but I have noticed an increase in speed with the 64 bit install. I mainly bought because of their $35 promo price. I'm not sure the increased functions from ACDSee 15 are very significant, but I haven't tried it on raw files yet.

"This program is not for professionals"

December 27, 2011  |  By silverfox4646

 |  Version: ACDSee Pro 5 5.1.137.0

Pros

When the program works it is a dream.
Does lots of things that makes the work flow easy
Easy to learn

Cons

I had 1800 character so I will cut it down to this
Program crashes and locks up all the time
I am a pro and have the latest computers 16 gigs of ram huge storage and fast vidio card.
You can not get customer service on the phone and it took them 2 days to get back to me with their same old answer take the program off and reload it. They make you feel like your are the only one to have these problems until I went to a workshop or convention and found out everyone was having the same problem of crashing and locking up. I have used the product from pro 3 and just don't have to have to go through the learning curve with a new program. Plus I keep thinking they must have fixed these really bad problems in the newer version only to find out I was wrong. Now I am thinking they would have to do to much back tracking to fix it so they can't at this point as it would cost to much so they keep hoping they sell it to newbee with out much demand for large files of 3 to 3 hundred images.

Summary

If you can put up with the crashing, locking up frustration of never speaking to a customer service person and don't mind being treated like a mushroom --kept in the dark and fed a bunch of poop You will probable love the program as I said if it worked as it is sold it would be wonderful but that has not been my experience and I have had the program from Pro 2 and bought all the newer versions and the older programs worked better as they were simpler and not trying to do everyithing. But like a fool I keep buying the newest, thinking; in this version they muct have solved these very bad problems of crashing and locking up just to find out no the are still in the program and get pissed at my self but I know the program so well I just don't want to have to go through a new learning cruve with a new program. however If I was starting from scratch I would go to ADOBE LIGHTROOM from the start.
