    "Very useful"

    December 9, 2010  |   By OJB

Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.70

    Pros

Works reliably, easy to use, handy ability to remember common options.

    Cons

A bit pricey. Doesn't include some functions in File Buddy.

    Summary

Previously used File Buddy for bulk rename but it got progressively more buggy and lacked support (even for re-licensing). Bought ABFR instead and it has worked really well. It's by far the best tool for renaming files I've used. Maybe a bit pricey for a single function program but worth it for IT pros.

"The Swiss Army knife for renaming files."

    October 14, 2010  |   By EMinot

Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.69

    Pros

This gem will accommodate almost any file renaming scheme. I use it most for merging large numbers of photo files taken with 3 or 4 cameras into chronological order within a single folder, but that's a fraction of it's capability.

    Cons

It's powerful, so be careful. It's entirely possible to mess up thousands of file names. Just make certain to preview the new file names before committing to them. This is more a caveat than a con.

Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.68

    Pros

On simple renames it works fast and no bumps (most of the time)

    Cons

Apparantly it need 10.5 and above (whiich is not well documented)
When I tried it out on my 10,4 system nothing happened (no messages). I found some on the console but no menthion of 10.5.

    Summary

I do like this product. I use it anywhere from 10-50 times a day. It has minor bugs but you learn to live with the it crashing.

Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.60

    Pros

I needed to change the creation date of some files I wanted to use in iMovie. This app made doing so as easy as clicking on a button.

    Cons

I haven't found any drawbacks yet.

Simply the best renamer - Period!

Last reviewers comments were obviously an ill thought out rant.

Highly recommended. Simple to use and nothing has more capabilities.

    "Does it all."

    September 17, 2008  |   By John Spannenburg

Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I believe I've probably tried every other renaming utility out there and, at various times, one or other has had some unique feature that I found useful enough to keep me coming back to that program and not using ABFR. Not any more.! As of version 8 ABFR now appears to have the superset of functions of all other renamers and I need no other program. It's also a bonus that the interface is well thought out and quite easy to master. Some of the other programs are, no doubt, powerful but you need to be a total propellor head to have a fighting chance of getting them to do anything useful. If you are a photographer shooting any sort of volume at all ABFR will pay for itself in a single shoot. Highly recommended.
