"Best renaming program & batch file handler available!"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 9.03
Pros
I've used A Better Finder Rename for years. It is almost perfect in all the things it can do and saves you alot of time during renaming, serial renaming, etc. The only thing I wish it did that a previous version did is allow you to rename individual files one at a time.
Cons
Can't, in my hands, rename individual files one at a time. Author is supposed to be working a way to do this.
-
"Very handy"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 9.01
Pros
lots of versatility regarding naming of files
Cons
Wish I could use music tags to rename files.
Summary
well worth it.
-
"Great but could be improved"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.84
Pros
Does so many great things it's hard to list the benefits.
Cons
Has lost the ability to modify individual names during a batch rename. This is a sorely missed feature. Please bring it back!
Summary
The hours and effort this will save you is easily worth the cost. I highly recommend it.
-
"Brilliant!"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.84
Pros
It's brilliant
Cons
None that I can see
Summary
Does exactly what it says on the box. Excellent. Pay for it - it's worth it.
-
"Works great for the simple tasks I've tried"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.80
Pros
Saves time, don't have to do tedious renaming of files.
Cons
Only 10 files can be renamed at a time in the free version. But you can run it again and again. So for free, it's a deal.
Summary
Good little time saver.
-
"The program makes well what it promises"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.76
Pros
easy and clear to use
Cons
I would like more options than the ones it actually has
-
"The best multipurpose file name utility!"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.72
Pros
Ease of use.
Cons
Can't edit individual files like in previous versions.
Summary
This is the best file name processor for Macs. Bar none!
-
"Great utility"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.72
Pros
Its usually easy to run the rename unless you need to shift characters around in the name.
Cons
Unable to shift characters around in the name
Author seems to be happy tying versions to OS levels (I do not like this)Summary
Usually straight forward to use. Although last time I gave it 1000+ names to change into lower case it fialed.
Also (used?) to have flakiness with having to have the 2 windows in constant contact. If not expect it to bomb. -
"Very useful"
Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.70
Pros
Works reliably, easy to use, handy ability to remember common options.
Cons
A bit pricey. Doesn't include some functions in File Buddy.
Summary
Previously used File Buddy for bulk rename but it got progressively more buggy and lacked support (even for re-licensing). Bought ABFR instead and it has worked really well. It's by far the best tool for renaming files I've used. Maybe a bit pricey for a single function program but worth it for IT pros.

"The Swiss Army knife for renaming files."
Version: A Better Finder Rename 8.69
Pros
This gem will accommodate almost any file renaming scheme. I use it most for merging large numbers of photo files taken with 3 or 4 cameras into chronological order within a single folder, but that's a fraction of it's capability.
Cons
It's powerful, so be careful. It's entirely possible to mess up thousands of file names. Just make certain to preview the new file names before committing to them. This is more a caveat than a con.
