    "Not What I Thought AD-AWARE 's Forte'"

    January 3, 2011  |   By Old Gen 4

    Pros

AD-AWARE - as an Anti-Virus/Firewall system - Good Value for the Money.

    Cons

Scans of System - complete scans - take a LONG TIME but appear to do most jobs adequately.

    Summary

I thought AD-AWARE (from its Name) would be a good replacement for the NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2006, but, unfortunately, it was not.

The NORTON IS 2006 version has a package built into it called ADVANCED AD-BLOCKING - this package allows you to remove Distracting Advertisements from all web pages (most done automatically-only stubborn ones require you to manually set restrictions on a site). This ADVANCED AD-BLOCKING is not on any NORTON PRODUCT AFTER 2006, therfore you have to procure an original disc to get it. NORTON STILL Support the orignal product and you receive your anti-virus definitions etc. only once a day. Unfortunately, for those who like WINDOWS 7 NORTON IS 2006 will not work on it - You can only use it on WINDOWS XP, you know, the safer one.

If Ad-AWARE could purchase the rights to use and update the ADVANCED AD-BLOCKING part of NORTON IS 2006 - and include it in their IS Product, then I would definately BUY IT !!!!
