"Ad-Aware 2008 takes away definitions auto update"

    July 15, 2008  |   By unclebic

It's one of the oldest and most trusted programs in the AntiSpyware world. Like most of these type of programs they are trying to make it do as much as possible. For 2007 and 2008 the interface has been updated and there are more features. Of course they want you to buy the full version that allows for automated scans and updates. You will want to update the program manually before scanning and then you get the same scans done for free that you would get with the paid version, just not automated.

The setting to update the definitions file before scanning has been taken away in the free version. Really I can't blame them, as this is the main reason to get the paid version. The "active" protection is not in the same class as SpySweeper or Spyware Doctor's full versions. Even the Google Pack version of Spyware Doctor has better and automated scanning. That is not to discount AdAware, I still use it on the machines that I work on that are really infected.
