    "LogMeIn plays dirty !!"

    July 23, 2012  |   By manxe

    Pros

I have used it a few times for remote control of friend's PCs and it has not failed me yet. Probably good software, all in all, but that is not the problem.

    Cons

LogMeIn will give you a free license. And it will support three remote connections, defined to their site. But when you go back to try and change the list that is initially set up, by downloading to a new remote PC, they will NOT allow you to set up a new FREE account. Instead, they tell you that you are setting up a free trial account. And there is no option on their website that will give you the right action. They are playing shifty with the word FREE, and it is NOT. All you get is a 14 day free trial.

    Summary

So if you are trying to support Aunt Martha in Kansas, and you use this product, it will work for a while and then the account will expire. Then Aunt Martha calls you in desperation on the 15th day, and you are locked out. Sorry, Aunt Martha!! That to my advice is NOT FREE. This corner they back you into has happened to me twice. The first time I was able to call and get the problem rectified. The second time, they don't answer the phone. No support for you !!

I haven't used the product yet; however, I read your comments and they didn't seem to jive with what would be called a FREE version. A product or version titled "Free" had better be free, as opposed to "free trial" or "free offer," or the company better be prepared for a consumer protection agency to step in.

So, I went to their website and found the following in the FAQs:

"When you create a LogMeIn account or install on a new computer, you automatically download a free trial of LogMeIn Pro."

    and

"LogMeIn Free is 100% free and will not expire."

It would appear that the version you are referring to is the LogMeIn Pro 14-day free trial and NOT the Free version.

Apologies, I'm not trying to sound like a detective, but I'm seriously considering LogMeIn Free version and want to know others' experiences before I go ahead with it, and your experience certainly isn't what they claim they are offering on the website.

    Thanks.
