"IE10 somehow faster than IE9, but causes serious errors"

    March 27, 2013  |   By Parpaluck

    Pros

Internet Explorer 10 is somehow faster than Internet Explorer 9 under Windows 7.

    Cons

I have encountered errors from some websites ("Your browser is older and you should upgrade to a "newer" version"!!!)

Sometimes, when I leave a page, I get this irritating message: "Leave the page — Stay on this page?"

I can no longer hover the mouse over an image and display the ALT text. The ALT text represents an excellent convenience; it is also a WWW requirement.

I used to download videos with RealPlayer Plus. I hovered the mouse over a video in IE9, then I clicked "Download this video". That convenient feature no longer works in IE10.

    Summary

I already had Internet Explorer 10 with Windows 8. The Metro version is horrible — I no longer use it... absolutely NOT!

I think now I made a mistake by "upgrading" my Windows 7 from IE9 to IE10. The increase in speed is not terrific, especially when heavily graphic websites are loaded.

The negative of IE10 is heavier, however. I have encountered errors from some websites ("Your browser is older and you should upgrade to a "newer" version"!!!)

Granted, it works NOT (easily) in Chrome. It works in Firefox, however (a browser I despise because it is terribly slow on my PC).

Why is your summary longer then the pro/cons section? And why is it repeating the same con points?

"I can no longer hover the mouse over an image and display the ALT text. The ALT text represents an excellent convenience; it is also a WWW requirement."

No, in fact, it is NOT. Alt text is meant to be displayed when images cannot be displayed (bad src attribute, missing asset, etc.), or read aloud in screen readers for vision-impaired users. Alt text is NOT supposed to appear when hovered, and no other browser displays it. Only IE, AFAIK, has ever erroneously displayed alt text on hover. According to the standard, it is text in the "title" attribute which should be displayed when the element is hovered, and this works just fine in IE 10 desktop on Win7, according to my tests.
