"Not very useful to non Anglophones"
It looked very powerful and clean and simple too but it was no use to me for the reasons explained below.
It seems to me that it is pretty useless to those that are writing in non Englilsh ascii encoded languages since it does not have the ability to change between encodings, and there are a lot of encodings used.
For example most Microsoft software uses a non Internet compatible encoding so it is important to be able read write and convert. In the Japanese language case it would be nice to be able to convert between MS's Shift JIS, and the two internet standards UFT-8 and EUC-JP, but Notepad++ does not seem capable of doing this. Those using Eastern European languages, Chinese and any other two byte language will all be faced with the same problem, and not find Notepad++ all that useful (unless they are just writing in program code, or in their own language in unicode only).
The Japanese free text editor Sakura does provide multiple encodings and encoding conversion functionality, so most Japanese users are happy, but being an anglophone I would have preferred a text editor with an English interface. Alas, that was not to be. I am uninstalling Notepad++.
