"As good as WinZip, but not better (3 and a half stars)"
Pros
- Free
- faster than winzip for creating archives (about the same for decomp)
- adds to the windows right-click menu but doesnt use registry or require admin priviledges (except for the "large page size" optional feature) to use OR to installCons
- In the options, you can pick an "editor", but there is no ability to use multiple programs for different file types.
- Can only choose compression mode, comp level, encryption, etc when creating archives, not with drag-n-drop to an existing one.Summary
I only downloaded this in the first place because my (paid for) version of WinZip would cost me to upgrade and I need something to handle RAR and Zipx formats -
I really didn't have any beef with WinZip except that in the right-click menu if you choose "extract to here" after right-clicking on a shortcut to an archive, it extracts to the target's folder and not the shortcut's folder - I hoped this would be fixed in a 3rd party app, but no: 7-zip does the same thing. ...disappointing
On the whole, it's a good program. Intuitive to use and no nasty surprises (so far - haven't messed with all the features yet).
